this still seems really harsh. i'll ask again, who has played it? i think fuzzmosis is the only one i've seen as of yet, i'll try to rent it tomorrow and then give my own 2 cents. i'll let you guys know, and believe me, i REALLY wanted this game to be spectacular, so if they let me down i'm prepared to tear em a new a$$hole. i am glad i didn't buy it hot off the shelves though.

I also wanted this game to be spectacular. I've also played the game. I'll have a review up for it on my site tomorrow.

In short, it's not a good game. It's not anything even close to a good game. It has so many control problems, bugs, and boring missions that at best, it's a rental. At worst, the manual will end up lining my cat's litter box while the disc will be used as a coaster.

Seriously, the game gets you so amped up with the dragons and the amazing environments that you want to masturbate to the opening scenes.

Then you get to the gameplay and 20 minutes later, you're trying to rationalize why you shouldn't throw your Sixaxis across the room and stomp everything into a million pieces as revenge for tricking you into spending $60 on this game.

that's too bad man... glad you bought it instead of me =p sorry, i'm still gonna rent it though, $6 is worth the pretty cutscenes. i must be a masochist ;) i can take it, LOL BTW, if you're really just gonna use the disc as a coaster, i'll give you $10 plus S&H to send it to me =) no, really, LOL

I heard you can get a lot more of quality pr0n with that $60.

(or maybe not having to do it yourself)

Definitely rent the game. There are parts that are a lot of fun and causing havoc with the dragons can induce schoolgirl giggling at points. Lair has its great moments, the big problem lays in the fact that those few great moments are interlaced with fury-driven explitives being thrown at your television because your dragon flipped when it should have charged/charged when it should have flipped/flew into a wall for no reason/overshot an objective without hitting a damned thing/locked onto a target, starting spinning and flew offscreen, completely disorientating you/just.did.something.stupid.

The sad thing is that my friend's first comment (who played the game before me)  was "hey, you're pretty good at controlling the dragon." I'm not some idiot who can't control the game, I'm just some idiot who is blasting the game for being a pile of shit when it could have been pure gold.

i will leave some hope that with an update they'll come through and totally revamp the controls... with as much green as was poured into development, they should try to salvage at any cost... not as unrealistic as it might seem. if this one aspect was corrected i think that the game would easily rise to a 7.5-8.5 average. let's hope, it'd be a vast waste not to really get the true potential out of this project... f&cking Sony, insisting on sixaxis control with such a huge title, idiots.

See, the problem is that I personally didn't have that big of an issue with the controls (but others do). My huge complaints come from everything else in the game that don't really invole controls. My friend is writing the first review and I honestly talked him up because he hated the controls so badly while the controls frustrated me yet didn't kill the game.

But you're right; if that game had dual analog control, it would be much more managable. It's a shame that Lair had to be the "let's show how great Sixaxis can be" when it was best suited to dual analog.

I do find it amusing that people can claim IGN is bias, IGN of all places. IGN practically has stockholders, what would it have to gain from being bias? You might as well say Europe is bias. If IGN or the entire continent Europe is "bias", it's no longer called bias, it's called fact.

I think this whole article is absolutely brilliantly written. I don't understand why people defend a bad game as if it's the blood of the very platform it's played on. I didn't see Wii fans rampantly defending Boogie... Anyone else agree with Tycho here?

How many persons do you know who defend games from EA anyway?

I am looking forward to My Sims, but if that blows I am probably off them for good. I did like Godfather for the Wii- but I didn't buy it I just rented it for an extremely long time from gamefly. Yeah I am sure there are plenty who will defend EA. For that matter, Ubisoft has been spotty to say the least and I am sure that some will defend it. Battletoads ruled- My friends and I spent hours getting to the last level repeatedly and then dieing like bitches.

If people don't buy a PS3 its the lazy buyers fault (take 2 jobs!)
If a game doesn't run at 60fps its the lazy EA's fault
If a game has bad controls, it's the lazy developers fault. (learn to watch 10 YouTube movies about how you can control the game)

So what the next hyped game that will help sell sony it's 7 million PS3's? (11 million by march remember)

For the record people were defending Boogie if I remember correctly...

Not to mention that some people mention Red Steal and how fun and whatnot it was but its rating on gamerankings is only about 5% better than Lair.

Also I recommend people to check out the game informer reviews of Lair, the majority of big reviews gave Lair low reviews but not all of them.

I still haven't played the game so I can't rate it, but I'm probably getting it tomorrow along with Blue Dragon so I'll see what I think of the game when I eventually get to play it (playing a bunch of other games before that).

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

I agree to an extent that there are always people who will like a game, regardless of reviews, but that doesn't mean you should attack every review source known to man... I don't know of any Red Steel players who disagree with the reviews or attack the sources. They just say that they like the game regardless. The point of the article is that people should praise reviewers for being honest enough to review a big game low, rather than attack them for it.
