Seems that Sony should be in profits soon enough... whens that new chip being put into use in the PS3? Anyone know?

I'm pretty sure Sony was the only one who didn't have a response last month. Even this month isn't a full blown PR statement like MS/Nintendo, or how like what they used to do. It's more like a statement from one of their PR guys.

They have every right to be pleased. They sold 276,000. That's a lot of $400 and $500 consoles in a month. All that in USA, what's has become the "turf" of their HD rival this generation which is currently selling at HALF the price on its 4th year and "only" managed to outsell the PS3 by 40% (by all accounts X360 should be selling a little closer to Wii range or at least outselling PS3 2:1). But the point in all this is not about how many units it gets outsold by, it's the large amount of units it keeps selling ESPECIALLY when there are not one but 2 other options in the market with much lower prices.

Kinda making it sound like 360 Arcade is the only model available.. I mean I know it's available for half the price of the PS3... but I'm pretty sure they sell more Pro's and Elites then Arcades...

The point is about how many units it gets outsold by... because even tho it's sales are high, other sales are higher..

^yeah, way to turn all my words around. Want a medal ? The 360 didn't outsell the PS2 (that's TWO) in 2005, 2006...or 2007. The PS3 outsold the 360 in 2007 and during the larger part of 2008, actually the 360 was still behind in 2008 until Black Friday. Yeah it's outselling it after it reduced its price to half of the PS3's, so? tell me something new. And yeah, the 360 was outsold by the more expensive PS3 in 2007 and 2008, so now that it's half the price you think the 360 outselling the PS3 50K WW every month is a big feat? and yeah "only" 115K more in its own turf. I don't know why I even waste my time with you, you're too easy.

And i thought we would have to wait another couple of years for our 'Next gen experience'. ;p

Sony is selling decent numbers and they are focused on trying to achieve profitability. Frankly they have to. What's the point of beating 360 if you never profit doing it?

As long as they continue to sell decent amounts and start realizing profits they don't need to justify their numbers. For many gamers they are speaking the truth when they say they are providing the premier gaming experience. Nothing wrong with that. It's not like Ferrari's outsell Corolla's or need to explain why they don't.

I actually found the January statement which was very remniscient to this one. You can find it on the second page of the NPD feb thread.

But in short, Sony said how the PSfamily (as a whole) did great and of course immidiatly cut to the future line up.

In all honesty, saying that you as a company are pleased is fine. But if even Sony cannot spin the actual numbers into something positive anymore you know that they have a problem on their hands.
