Forums - Gaming - Casual games = Soulless games. Wii is not for me.

yep I dont like the wii. Its too boring, the games just dont have much momentum for me.

And I guess you've played them all...

Another over-generalised comment by a young person. You get used to it happening when you work in a school.

Yes.

Why should we even listen to the opinions of a person whose experience with gaming starts at FF7? I could claim that this game was a soulless shell-in from square, bending way to much on 3D which made it inferior to FF6.

I'm also quite shocked that you can't find the "soul" in wii sports. Or that you miss the context. I get Miyamoto when he says that wii sport is what he envisioned years ago when he could not get his wife to play games. He made Wii sports for his wife... and all those other people who do not get "our hobby". To me, that is not just soul...that is pure love.

I'm to important to read through a 100 post thread. Plus, you failed to point your attention to the more important subject matter in my previous post.

I'd also advice you to lose the capslock.

Now, as others pointed out, soul is not determined by hours spent watching cutscenes or the contents of a story. "Soul" is many things to different people. To me, it is immersion. Losing yoursel in a game. And I can attest, I lost myself in wii sports.

You're only 17. How exactly did you go in order through the timeline of consoles when the first two on your list predate your birth and you wouldn't have been able to get into videogames until approximately the launch of the Playstation? It just doesn't seem very likely that you somehow went in chronological order when by the time you were ready to be playing games the 32/64-bit era was upon us.

It seems you're getting closer to falling off the rocker with this "having a soul" shit. At this point it's rather confusing as to what you even mean because you went from "having soul" to "having a soul" which is completely different. Games do not have souls. They are software. They can't one day die and hope their souls make it up to gaming heaven. Now what you'll reply to me with is something along the lines of "Obviously I didn't mean it literally. It's a figure of speech", and then I'll refer you back to Esmoreit's points which you still haven't seemed to grasp.

Let's do it this way. Here's Merriam-Webster's 8 different definitions of soul. You tell me which one pertains to video games.

1soul Pronunciation: \ˈsōl\ Function:noun Etymology:Middle English soule, from Old English sāwol; akin to Old High German sēula soulDate:before 12th century
1: the immaterial essence, animating principle, or actuating cause of an individual life

2 a: the spiritual principle embodied in human beings, all rational and spiritual beings, or the universe bcapitalized Christian Science : god 1b

3: a person's total self

4 a: an active or essential part b: a moving spirit : leader

5 a: the moral and emotional nature of human beings b: the quality that arouses emotion and sentiment c: spiritual or moral force : fervor

6: person <not a soul in sight>

7: personification <she is the soul of integrity>

8 a: a strong positive feeling (as of intense sensitivity and emotional fervor) conveyed especially by black American performers b: negritude c: soul music d: soul food e: soul brother

Now I'm going to say that off the bat, the only one I see applying is #8, which is the word "soul" associated with soul music.
