I've always attributed 'hardcore' with mastery of a particular game or genre. That, and usually lack of female friends, or lack of any friends outside of their monitor.

"Core" games are games that you play to get into, they mostly time consuming , have alot of depth , challenging ....ect , Core gamers like all types of games.
in a nutshell Core games are for people who see games as a lifestyle.

"Casual" games are games that you pick up and play ,they're simple a,and never progress , IE Tetris , Bejelewed...ect , Casual gamers mostly like one type of games.
In a nutshell Casual games for people who is not into games much to be their lifestyle

there is also Graphic whores , Gore lovers ,Fanboys,Mainstream Gamers ...ect but thats another story

btw Hardcore sounds like Porno (and im imagining geeks having rough butt sex when i hear it)
i prefer the tearm "Core" more

strategy, and obscure games.
