But we have to pay for the FFXIII demo.

You Pay for the blu ray movie or the bundle, the demo is free.

Not really. The blu ray movie with the demo costs $10 more than the one without the demo. So you're still paying for it.

Game publishers aren't happy about it? Sucks for them..MS will never charge this because they already charge the users via annual fee.

Articles like this make you realize some of the things that your annual fee is actually covering for MS - not saying it's always a bad thing, but you don't really know what you're paying for - all you assume it is, is to be able to play online..you're covering a bit more than that.

And with Silver, it is unpaid.  Microsoft uses the money for Gold to enable people to download games and demos and so on.  And this explains why there are far more demos of games on the 360 than the PS3.

Early on, the idea of Sony CHARGING for demo downloads was discussed.  Well, I guess it looks like it made its own comeback in this form.

Huh.

So in otherwords anytime a company gives "free" downloadble content they're taking one for the team.

Wonder if this counts for demos.  If so... ouch.

I think we should wait and see if anything happens because of this. So far nothing and PS3 owners are gloating. But I would like to see the first loss for the PS3 due to this before ppl start complaining/rejoicing.

I was wondering the same thing and I found this in the article.

"It applies a 16-cent charge to every Gigabyte of content downloaded from the PS3’s PSN online store.  For free content, like demos, those charges apply only during the first 60 days of the content’s release."

So publishers will pay for the first 2 months which is when most of the downloads occur. This will definitely affect the free content being offered. Publishers could pay millions of dollars if you consider how many demos they put out a year.

Well u can say anything about this good or bad, its not good for the publishers. I remember when ps3s first year alot of people complanied that 360 got all demos a month before it and some demos never got to ps3 so i wonder how it will be now and also i wonder if Sony decied to charge for psn instead i think that would have been actually worse but nevertheless this isnt such a good idea espeacially if they charge a demo which could less demos for us.

I can't believe number PS3 owners that ignorantly think this is good for them. Ultimately this going to result in less demos being available on PSN and higher prices for DLC. Publishers aren't just going to absorb the hit, they are going to pass along the cost to the consumers.

Cool, looks like they are really trying to kill core gaming. Go sony go!

Does anyone know how much the licensing fees are for each console?

Do people read the article? This has been in practice since October of last year and there have still been a good number of trailers/demos up on PSN, so it obviously isn't that much of an issue for some companies. While I agree that it's not a good thing for publishers, it might be necessary considering the aspect that PSN is free.
