Forums - Nintendo - Don King's Boxing gets..... from ONM

8.5 O_O
They say the controls actually work great (better than Wii Sports Boxing of course). The bad thing...... is the graphics.

Pro
Control system works great
Fun Balance Board Support
Enjoyable mini-games
Great in multiplayer

Con
Basic visuals...

The game has a pleasingly in-depth tutorial mode which explains the best way to swing them to activate each punch. It's at this point during many games that we begin to get nervous because, as any dedicated Wii gamer knows, the Remote and Nunchuck - as awesome as they are - are not as accurate as some games seem to pretend. This is a problem with games that require different types of swing because, more often than not, there are problems when it comes to recognition specific motions.
While there's the odd wrong punch thrown Don King's Boxing, for the most part it's surprisingly accurate. Left hooks work 100% of the time, as do jabs and straights. As for right hooks and uppercuts, with a bit of practice we could execute those nine times out of ten. For such a selection of different swings to recognise, that's a hell of an achievement by the game's developers.

It's also pleasingly simple to string together combinations of punches. Without too much effort you can link a left jab to a right straight, to a left hook to a right uppercut. Pulling this off is one of the most satisfying gaming experiences we've had for a long time. To cut a long story short: punching works really well.

My scanner seems to have a problem, so... :(

Maybe it's the boxing game we've been waiting for?

This game has always been marketed as a boxing simulation, thus the very good control scheme.

Interesting timing, no advertising and Punch Out will deflate any legs/wings it has going for it.

Plus, arn't kids afraid of Don Kings hair?

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

None the less good score

Yeah, but they're completely different.
They could've made it look a bit better though. -_-'

Good score but the game will be a hard sell. I'd like to see how other magazines review it too.

I read a preview for this that also said it worked really well, as well as using the balance board for dodging / ducking. Plus it has full online and multiplayer making this, in my mind, the definitive boxing game for get for Wii.
Get even tells you how many calories you burned.

ONM are actually pretty conservative in terms of Reviews they gave Madworld 85, so they not inflating the scores too often. Saying this i love boxing, but there are so many games on the Wii now im probably going to wait for Punch Out.

It sounds better than Punch Out Wii as I'm expecting Nintendo's game to have poor motion controls, no online, and no balance board support. I guess we will know in a few months which game is better.

Is there local multiplayer? The game sounds very cool.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?
