Metroid Prime 3 Outsells BioShock - Over 400,000 Copies

The first week BioShock was released it sold an amazing 400,000 copies. I was looking at at this week’s sales numbers for all 3 consoles and noticed Metroid Prime 3 sold more than BioShock.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption bests former overall sales leader BioShock in its first week of release, becoming the week’s single best-selling software title across all platforms in the United States. With few major Wii releases on the horizon, Corruption’s place atop the chart is likely to remain uncontested over the next several weeks as well. Positive buzz from upcoming titles like My Sims and Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party could bring a reshuffling of chart positions in the near future, however.

I do want to note that BioShock was released for the 360 and PC(updated). Metroid Prime 3 on the other hand was released for the Wii only. This has to be big news for developers. . .especially when the average game breaks even at around 200,000 copies.

Enjoy Soriku !!!!
(whatever, Bioshock get better review !)

w00t! :)

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

Wow. With the amount of hype surrounding Bioshock, and the lack of hype surrounding Corruption, this is surprising.

What is the point in comparing sales if the source isn't going to actually account for PC sales? A lot of gamers with good computers and a 360 would opt to get Bioshock on the PC because of the superior Mouse/KB controls. And on the other hand, players without a 360 who buy Bioshock would skew the sales figures if one wanted to consider would-be sales for the consoles (i.e. who would buy Bioshock on the 360 if there wasn't a PC version).

I don't know... seems kind of pointless to bother comparing them sales-wise.

Edit: On a side note, I can't seem to find any sales figures in the link stating that MP3 sold more.

Holy crap, I was totally wrong about MP3 sales. I've never been so happy to be wrong!

Whether PC sales push Bioshock ahead is irrelevant to me. MP3 has exceeded just about everyone's expectations, which is saying a lot.

Can't say I'm too surprised. Although Bioshock has had alot of hype over a last few month, lets keep in mind that System Shock 2 bombed hard in sales. It's something of a minor miracle that Bioshock has managed to become a top seller.

"Edit: On a side note, I can't seem to find any sales figures in the link stating that MP3 sold more."

Exactly... all I see is how MP3 sold an ambiguous "more," with no numbers. And leaving out PC sales is like closing one eye to the stats... You're missing the other half of the picture here.

Let's wait for something a little more solid than this before any celebrating/crying.

Prediction: Wii passes 360 in US between July - September 2008. (Wii supply will be the issue to watch, and barring any freak incidents between now and then as well.) - 6/5/08; Wow, came true even earlier. Wii is a monster.

I don't know about that - the PC version of the game is VERY DRM happy (5 installs only?  You've got to be kidding me!)...I usually prefer to play games on the PC over everything else, but if I had a choice between the two versions of Bioshock I would choose the xbox 360 version.

Why is this suprising? Shouldn't MP3's first week sales be expected to exceed Bioshock's second week sales? Or is the article saying MP3's sales this week exceed the 400,000 Bioshock sold last week?

Good, but I wan't numbers. There are no numbers there.
