Can't say I agree with all of your points, but a very respectable read. Good job.

I think we have as many "PS3 is doomed" comments as "PS3 is going to rise from the ashes" comments.
Tease.
agreed 3rd place is fine what does it really matter. Its sold over 20M+ so i doubt it wont get 3rd party support. The console is fine and SONY will not be doomed if they take 3rd place. Somebody has to loose and this seems to be SONY's turn.
Long Live SHIO!

Compared to the Wii yes,Compared to the 360 no. |
Profit wise PS3 is doing very poorly compared 360 or Wii. Sony has already lost everything they got from PS2 and next stop will be profit they got from PS1, if this doesn't end somehow. Soon it would have been better not even enter the console business in first place. :P
| Garnett said: First i would like to congraulate Sony and the PS3 for selling 21.16 MILLION,Playstation 3 Computer Entertainment system, with a pricetag of 399$.
Now i would like to address people saying PS3 needs a pricecut and Sony is d00m3d!I would like to disagree, and while it is indeed being outsold by the 360,it has actually managed to outsell the Xbox 360 a few weeks ago, this to me,does not indicate a failing system,They are moving Units at a high price tag,They do NOT need a pricecut,i am sure they could do without a pricecut until 2010-2012(The end of the console war). As to being outsold by the Xbox 360,honestly Who cares? Are multiplat games selling 10x better on the Xbox 360?No only a few million, that shows even an 8 million gap people are still buying the PS3 version just as much as the PS3 version, and in some cases the PS3 version outsells the 360 version. Now onto a touchy subject PS3 exclusives,I think the PS3 has some good exclusives (Few intrest me tho)but the PS3 appeals to many genres,Sure PS3 Exclsvs dont sell 6 million but who cares? I found out that R2 is more fun than the highly acclaimed Gears of War 2,but yet people bash this game,Why its awesome! The only negative thing i can say about PS3 exclsvs is that they are over hyped, even Halo 3 didnt recieve this mutch attention nor Mk:Wii.
So people there you have it,PS3 is NOT failing, the PS3 is doing GOOD,Sony does NOT need to cut the price of the PS trey, and this is coming from a "Xbox 360 Fanboy". |
2010 to 2012 is just probably the start of the NEXT console war, but it's not the end of this one. PS stay on the market for around 9 years or so.
Also, nothing is more hyped than Halo 3, so far. Do I have to post links to Halo 3 canned sodas, 30min TV specials, and koisks in grocery stores around the world?

While it is possible that the PS3 will be in 3rd place, it's still the most technically sound console on the market. It also will have the most innoviate games and best immersive experiences with 7.1 LPCM audio, award winning graphics, A.I., animations, etc.
Sales shouldn't concern owners and potential owners. As gamers, it's not what we are suppose to be concerned with. Having Killzone 2, MLB 09:The Show, Flower, Fat Princess, M.A.G., Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Heavy Rain, Ratchet & Clank Future 2, GT5, etc. is what WE are suppose to be concerned with. Anything else besides console ability and gaming line-ups is extreme fanboyism.

Too late, they burned through the PS1 profits while establishing the PS2. The data we have from DFC intelligences (via Dave Perry by way of joystick here: http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/the-sony-reciprocal-ps3-losses-surpass-ps2-profits/) talks about the PS2's 5 best years, not the console's whole life. Of course, the extended effect of the brand makes it worth the while, as it has helped to establish multimedia formats and extend brand and technology strength to non-gaming divisions. Plus, the PS3 can still recover, though it certainly hasn't lost the sort of money MS has on Xbox.l

Maybe, if we're lucky. Even the most optimistic estimates have us still in recession well into 2010, grimmer outlooks see it lasting well past 2012. I'd be shocked to see a new console from any of the three current competitors in that time, though an HD Wii is possible, and if we do it probably won't kick off an instant console war. People can't afford to upgrade so soon, and Nintendo is the only one of the three that can afford to launch a new platform

Except that it doesn't make really sense, if you really stop to think about it.
Why should we split a theoretical "market" between Wii, 360 and PS3? It's not like they are catering to the same set of people. There are customers of 360 and PS3 who would never buy a Wii, and customers of a Wii who would never buy a console without a wiimote or a balance board.
As such that "market" you are considering shares of, doesn't really exist. And trying to put those three consoles together just because we can and to get three percentage numbers out of them is just bad statistics.
| shinyuhadouken said: lol...what are the chances of all consoles actually selling equally? That would never happen. |
Never say Never. We might never see it but no matter the odds it could happen.

FootballFan - "GT has never been bigger than Halo. Now do a comparison between the two attach ratios and watch GT get stomped by Halo. Reach will sell 5 million more than GT5. Quote me on it."
