Of course I consider it part of this generation. The only valid measure is the time it was released, and it was released at around the same time as the PS3 and 360 (a little more than a year after the 360, but still well within acceptable parameters). Therefore, it is of the same generation.
Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

the single most deciding factor is, like many other people have said, is the time span in which it was released.
i could turn this argument on its head in the same way by saying the 360 and ps3 belong in the sixth gen because they have no real upgrades in the way you play whereas the wii does. i mean think about it, the nes to the super/genesis era, we got shoulder buttons and an x and y button. the 64/ps1 era, we got rumble, an analog stick, and more trigger buttons. the xbox/ps2/gamecube era, we got dual analog. 360 and ps3 offer... what? their controllers had no upgrades in them what so ever whereas nintendo actually got off their asses and incorporated motion sensing. nintendo is the only one that makes any improvements to the way you play. the only thing it didnt create was dual analog.
No, I don't consider the Wii a games console. I consider it an entertainment device, Same for the PSP (though sadly I own a PSP for its media functions).
Then again the 360\PS3 have gone the other way and they are getting too hardcore for my liking with no "fun".
Bring back the Snes\Genesis I say.
i know it is, but it really doesn't matter. besides, you'll just just get blank stares if you tried to convince anyone otherwise.
What kind of thread is this? The Nintendo Wii, by our standards of generation (which is chronological) is obviously part of this 7th generation; the Wii, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
Now you can also count Wii in a separate "New Generation" like Nintendo and 'Sean Malstrom' does, with everything from NES to PS3 (excluding Wii and DS) part of the NES generation which values our 'epic' games. This New Generation is also known as the Touch Generation and has completely different values, and this theory has the best explanation of the Wii and DS's success as well as their hatefulness from the self-proclaimed "hardcore".
I just love people like Outlawauron and Ari_Gold. I never even need to look at their handle to know which troll has posted. They seem to exist in a fantasy world where things like hard cold facts (RE4 GC vs. PS2) simply don't exist. Basically if it has to do with Nintendo they are going to start making shit up. Grow up guys.
What cracks me up is that in 3 years at E3 when Sony and MS release motion controlled consoles. Even they realize that the control of the Wii is the real "next gen". Imagine what the trolls will be saying then...
XBL: WiiVault Wii: PM me PSN: WiiVault

If Sony or Microsoft release motion controllers similar to the Wii, I'll give up gaming forever :(
