Forums - PC - Getting a wireless router soon...

So, I've upgraded my net to double the speed I had... and now I have 3mbps. With doing that, I also want to get a wireless router... I need a brand/model recommendation! thanks guys!

Most of them are pretty much the same unless you are a power/corporate user. A lot of people like the Linksys WRT54g because it is hackable. I would just avoid getting a no-name one where support might be hard to find.

Get a Broadcom chip-set one.

Yeah agreed these are the gold standard in chipsets. Plus the Linux routers have some really nifty features unique to to broadcom chips.

Well... I just said that because I work for them. I don't know anything about the TI chipsets to be honest.

2Wire DSL Modem / WiFi / 4 Point Router is Excellent!

AT&T gave it to me, they sell them for any DSL line.

Excellent item, one box for EVERYTHING.

I would like to add, if you going for gaming:

I changed everything from hardline to WiFi, then I switched everything but my Wii and laptops back to Hardline, because WiFi just doesn't cut it for Online Gaming..

but thats just me.

Lol well they do make the best chipsets that I know of. I've heard some good things about the TI ones but they simply don't seem as battle tested. All the high end seem to pretty much use BC chips.

Well TI got DOCSIS3.0 out before us, eventhough it was a fake one.

Wasn't theirs based just on the draft DOCSIS 3.0 spec? I think they allowed a firmware upgrade, but still that is risky from the buyer's perspective. I made that mistake buying a 802.11 draft B card from a company who went belly up before the specs were finalized. That was a nightmare.
