Forums - Gaming - "Killzone 2 to drive XBox 360 owners to PS3, claims Sony"

Fundamentally his statement is true, but meaningless.  KZ2 will not push owners en masse to the PS3 because, while pretty, the game just doesn't differentiate itself enough from the plethora of shooters already on the market.

The only way they would be able to cause a mass migration would be to secure exclusivity on something like Call of Duty or Gears of War, and that just won't happen.

The guy's statement was simple, and undeniably true. The magnitude of its impact is, of course, indeterminable.

Well put.

While the hardcore might be incensed at the notion, the simple fact is this game has more then likely converted, or will convert, a few formally 360 only owners into multiplatform owners.

All exclusives to a degree probably drive a a small portion of gamers to do the same, but it's the big exclusive titles that rope in larger crowds.

Also, as has already been mentioned, the interests and tastes of the rival consoles install base plays a vital role. For example, I would imagine some of the exclusive JRPG's in Japan (SO4, TLR etc.) drove some PS3 only owners into making a 360 purchase. Just as the shooter crowd, many of which have their home made on the 360, would be interested in a game like KZ2.

Someone could make that assement about any game. People buy 360s and ps3s every day. I can say ps3 owners bought a 360 for Banjo, and I would be right, up to an extent. Someone could make that argument about any game, even if there isn't a siginicant boost in console sales.

EDIT: However, Sony is generalizing 360 owners. The majority of owners won't change their opinon based on one game.

It's a great game, but could've been much better in so many ways. The lack of options/variety/co-op and the controls are stopping it from becoming huge.

The game was hyped mainly because of it's graphics, while also losing features such as co-op/splitscreen because of it. Stuff like that will hurt a game in the long run.

The statement is true but then the damage would be minimal anyway ... think of all the PS3 fans who went on to buy a 360 for the best 3 FPS's this generation Gears, Gears 2 and Halo 3.

I'd hope not as Gears 1 and 2 are not First Person Shooters.

Yeah yeah whatever. All the same to me

The PS3 has some awesome games, but frankly I think if there was a game that might pull 360 owners over to the PS3 it was MGS4. So many current 360 owners played the PS1, GC, PS2, or Xbox versions. Clearly that didn't happen, maybe they played it over a friend's house or something. KZ2 looks great, but it a shooter, that built its base on PS family and thus while awesome will not be able to pull many people to spend that much money on the system.

I think that this statement probably was "more true" in the regards that KZ2 would demonstrate, to non-PS3 owning gamers, what the PS3 was capable of, and make it an appealing gaming option.

In a sense, all he's really saying is that Sony is working hard at building an impressive lineup, which showcases their own platform, and isn't failing to do so -- KZ2 is merely the latest such example.

Any and every game could be "the one" the sways a potential buyer into purchasing a console. I wouldn't touch a 360 with a 10-foot pole until Lost Odyssey showed up, as a personal example. Then I had to have one, because yep, I get LO, and Mass Effect, IU, Fable 2 (and BC Fable 1, which I never played), etc. etc.

To say LO was the one game that motivated me to score a 360 would be false. Yet, it played a role. I think that all this guy is saying is that KZ2 is yet another one of those games that people will list off, when they say "I bought a PS3 because..."

Killzone 2 was a reason I got my PS3 (Got it late last year). It didn't dissapoint. Worth Every dollar and some

I think sony has a nice job of getting, and keeping exclusives. But for some reason I just don't like sony franchises Killzone is generic (yes, I know I like halo, so what?)
I guess just a differing opinion. And I will be getting LBP on my psp (which that, and motorstorm wanted to make me join sony and their sith lords) I might also get motorstorm on my psp, but the psp has an abundance of racing games, and I already have two I don't play much.

I think some people will try a friends ps3 with killzone. But will there be a noticeably big pendulum swing? No.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Well you cant blame the man for trying.

Would have been better if he had said Gran Turismo will DRIVE people to own a PS3. At least we could have got a decent pun out of it !
