Forums - General - Cambridge Uni entry level is now A*AA.....more uni's to follow suit in UK!

@Darth

Firstly, I find it incredibly hard to write with poor grammar and spelling anywhere because it just looks wrong to me. Not saying you're lying, I don't particularly care if you are, I don't even know you.

I know people that have gone to Oxford and Warwick. The people in Oxford went out partying once or twice during the entire second semester. If that's your thing, then go for it. Just don't expect it to be in the same league socially as other Unis. Also ask yourself what you like talking to your friends about. Videogames? Music? Don't expect any of that. It's extremely competitive there. People look for any opportunity to show off their intellectual prowess. Expect much philosophical and intellectual debating instead of small talk.

Of course degrees there are highly regarded but you have to ask yourself if you'll even make it through the first term in that situation. I don't know you so you may be a total nerd and like that sort of thing anyway, lol.

@Red Harvest

I do not feel the need to show off grammar on an online forum

I got an A* in English language & English Literature at GCSE....just so you know I'm not incapable of good grammar......

About you complaint......that sound really silly to me no offense.

Oxford n Cambridge Uni's are among the top worldwide.....they make make us work....but that hard work will probably be very rewarding......ofcourse there will be fun too.

An elipsys only uses three periods lol.

@Redharvest - Maybe he's like me, I'm known as a grade grubbing book work at uni. I come here to relax and take a break. This means I shut my brain off and work at 10% capacity if you will lol.

I'm lost here, can someone please explain...

The A* mark at A2 will be new for next year, ie those who are doing AS now. Universities had said that they would not require the A*, but now Cambridge have said that they will require an A*. However, they have previously requested certain UMS scores (scores which are scaled) which are the equivalent of the new A*

@munkeh111

technically then nothing has really changed

As cambridge wanted 90% + UMS people anyway

but If OTHER uni's follow suit....the uni's that never looked at UMS marks...thats whent he problem arises

@ darth, yeah that is true, but I doubt that many universities will go for it

really....its easy to write poor grammar....especially not a keyboard....spelling mistakes are even easier to make

______

People don't talk about videogames & music at oxbridge.....sorry but that sounds like a stereotypical "myth"

People from oxbridge came to our school back in dec............they told us such things were myths

And no.....showing of my intellectual prowess....or being around such people would be close to mental suicide for me.....as I won't be able to make friends with such people ever

Ofcourse due to this new A* grade they want I may not even apply there

Leicester, UCL, Nottingham seem more appealing

@munkeh111

well OXFORD said no

Now I bet oxford will GET LOADS of applicants that were put off by cambridge....so getting into oxford automatically has become hard

UCL has already done that.....but not for medecine as we have a seprate medical admission test

I just hope it stays like that

at the worst warwick & imperial....maybe nottingham will follow cambridge n UCL.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Well Oxford not changing it is bad for me because I intend to apply there, my brother is going to Cambridge, having far more applicants is always a bad thing, and my ability to get an A* should help me

@munkeh111

I would go for oxford but they take GCSE's into account greatly

and I don't have like 10 + A*'s at GCSE
