Dont be stupid. That would kill Sony. How would you feel If you just bought an expensive games console and found out that in order to play games you had to fork out more cash for an add-on? Then you find out the same thing when going to watch a Blu-Ray........Id go crazy

The wireless modules was estimated to cost $15.50 at launch by iSuppli.

Licencing cost for Blu-Ray playback is now $9.50, much of which goes back to Sony already.

Removing these, the PS3 is then $25 cheaper to manufacture, and is a LOT less appealing to consumers at the same time.

lol all you want....butwithout the SONY brand/PS3 brand........PS3 would've absolutely bombed at $600

1) removing wifi might save them $10-20, so unless they get 100% buy rate of the adapter, they won't be saving all that much money.

2) Blu-Ray movies are a major component for buying a PS3, removing it would be stupid, and cut one of the best features out of the system. Also, I don't think it would save them much money (maybe $10 in liscensing fees), and you would need a high buy rate.

so they would probably lose more than original if they cut $100 from the system price. You could probably safely claim they can cut the price by like $50, and after people purchsed the add-ons they would be breaking even to what they are doing now.

The value engineering cycle has long since passed, I doubt you will see any additional features removed. The only thing Sony could possibly do is include a faster Blu-ray player, and remove the hard drive. But they would have to patch a lot of games that required installs. That would probably save them $50 per sku.

Microsoft has a better model, they sell their features a la carte and at a premium. The Xbox Arcade sku is MS's best weapon against Sony.

I guess I'm the only one who ever bought the WIFI adaptor for my 360... It was $99 cdn, which sucked but it's better than running a cord through the house. In fact, I bought the VGA cable and the play and charge kit.

Wi-fi is so useless...
