Forums - Sales - Predic LAIR sales in first week!?

Globox82 said:

What are your expectations? A lot of bad reviews will most definetly affect sales, but still lets try to predict. BTW-game was released little earlier on 31 August in USA

I think around 100k-150k first week

Well there are many reviews and many ranging from 8 to 4 so the affect of reviews is impossible to even guess.  Alot of the hardcore media kille dit but the more casual gave it much more favorable reviews.  If reviews mattered that much mario party 8 would have been a flop.

 First week..... tough ,around 100k.

carlos: How much do you think it cost?

20m+ for sure, likely around 25 million.

Nah, developing tools and technology from ground up for Killzone 2 costed less than 20 million USD so LAIR can not cost more than 10 million.

For example Gear of War costed around 10 million

It's actually well known the overall budget is north of $20 million.

Let me tell you, it is bull .... no matter what they say. They just want to make it sound more BIG, EPIC, EXPENSIVE.

Like i said it is well known fact that Gears of war costed around 10 million usd

One has nothing to do with the other. One team can easily get more out of a smaller budget.

I still say that it is bull crap. But even if it is true, than they are idiots to invest that much money in dragon flying game.

No shortage of those in this world.

I don't take amazon sales too seriously but the fact that Lair is at #53 right now can't be a good sign.

true but one thing is for sure that it will out sell blue dragon and two worlds on 360 as both thoes games are already off the top 100. so expect a HUGE drop for two worlds 360 version next week.proly around a 90k drop

I think LAIR will do about 60k due to short week and not every retailer selling it. the fallowing week should be about 45k where most gamers will know about its release and positive user reviews on IGN and other Sites.

You mean Two Worlds that got 7.0 and 7.5 for pc version from biased GameSpot? While two other sites gave is 2/10 and 3/10? Just being ass a little

They've lost over $3 billion on the PS3, really what's another $20 million?

Epic also used their own engine that was already pre-built for Gears. That had to cut out an enormous chunk in development costs.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

And microsoft has lost over 10 billion on the xbox and 360. Whats your point?

Ok lets clear up the misinformation. I kept all of my documents from GDC and the Factor 5 presentation because I keep a eye out for things like that, and Im a packrat.

First, on Lairs budget: (These are from Factor 5's power point slide during the show)

(I resized this image because its so damn huge)

The cost of Lair is massive, make no doubts about that. Teetering somewhere around 24 million dollars. This figure also does not account for the money they also have to spend to advertise this game. Adding advertisement it goes even higher, however Factor 5 states that it shouldnt be seen as a 24million dollar project, but more of a 20 million dollar project because they planned to use some of the assets they learned and built for this game, on the next game they get funding to make for the PS3.

Observe:

(Again, I resized it)

Looking at things this way you can see that Lair costs a ton, but they hope to bring the REAL world cost of Lair to around 20 million by using some of the assets and knowledge they got while building Lair as a spring board into their following projects.

The only thing I question at this point is Lairs sales. Sure it reviewed badly, but is it going to sell? It has to sell ALOT to even come close to breaking even on its budget after you factor in marketing costs. And if it DOESNT sell well, will sony really pony up another 15 - 18 million for Factor 5 to make another PS3 game the way F5 planned? Well we will see.
