Wow it does look good in those vids, the water effects are amazing, the rest looks like warhawk, but with better shading!(and thats a good thing).

I don't mean to bash Warhawk but it's graphics don't even compare to Halo 3's, they're in completely different leagues.

Agreed, the halo multiplayer/online might look like almost same graphic lvl, but you CANNOT compare single player to mult graphics cause halo will easily beat it.

Leo stop making these comments please!

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

Yeah, I know all about plasma. Heck, neon signs give off a crapload of light. However, we all know people like to use cool sounding terms like plasma in the SciFi realm without actually meaning to refer to the actual thing. I mean, if that's really ionized gas like plasma actually is, it'd half to be in some sort of container to prevent its dissipation. However, there doesn't appear to be any container (I don't think hitting someone in full armor with a glass tube is going to cut them apart) and the gas isn't dispersing, so we can already assume this isn't the actual plasma we've come to know and (possibly) love. As a result, we can't assume anything about its properties. I like to simply think of it as fancy alien tech that doesn't conform to our normal laws.

Plasma is highly responsive to magnets due to its ionized nature. All they really need is technology to shape a strong magnetic field and it would do the job just fine. So real plasma would work just fine. But you're right it doesn't mean it has to be "real" plasma.

In either case even if we assume its some alien technology the fact remains that since we cannot look past it means it blocks light. If it doesn't cast a shadow then we should see the ground behind it because the only reason we see anything is because light bounces off of it and into our eye.

Not trying to be contrary, but really it makes no sense for alien technology to just up and decide to block some light sources and not others even if we assume it can choose to do it in the first place. =P

PS - Yes I am a geek, and I proudly admit it...but then again isn't anyone who posts on a video game forum?

Oh, crap, me forgots about magnets. The summer break must've really made me rusty. Anyways, while I guess it'd be possible to use some insane magnets to do that, I don't see how they're keeping it in such a form (that little dual hook thing) when it looks like the magnets could be no where besides at the base of the sword.  That'd be one insane magnetic field.  I'm not going to argue that it's seemingly selectively defying the laws science has created in respects to light, but my whole point, like you acknowledged, is that it can feasibly go beyond our laws. You could argue that they're not trying to get that effect, but it's simply a strange attribute of the sword that goes beyond our limited understanding of the universe. In the end, we all know we're giving the developers too much credit and they just forgot to make shadows for 'em.

You're right and I guess we'll have to wait until release to see if they improved the graphics from the multiplayer beta as well.

They improved it, not bad, not bad at all, not UT3 still quite nice. Water looks a bit plasticy though.. and I dont think the covenant ships are supposed to look like that (color/texture wise), in the books they were more liquidy. And yes Plasma does give off light. Kinda sad to see the same shadow and animation for running between those two. And the face in the mask looks kinda meh. Will be fun multiplier but still was expecting better out of Bungie. Bungie is normally one of the few dev teams which can make great graphics and gameplay (like Square, Polyphony, Epic, and a few others) but this is kinda sad, I think Gears looks better in some ways. I think they rushed this a bit like Halo 2, should have spent another year on it. Made it a 4th gen 360 game.

There's a big difference between a game like Gears or UT3 and a game like this. Halo 3 will have integrated vehicular combat and their levels are appropriately massive and wide-open to accomodate this. You can't have the same detail in graphics in levels that vast as you do in a 'corridor-style' shooter.

If you've seen the single-player videos going on Hi-Def, I don't think you would be calling out Halo 3 on graphics, either. It looks spectacular.

UT 2004 had vehicle combat since before Halo was released... so your point has a major hole in it. And have you played the maps for UT... even UT 99? I dont think so.. a 1 v 1 map can be small as heck or retardedly massive but layed out to make it fit a 1 v 1 match perfectly.

I have played UT and enjoyed it thoroughly. But the UT multiplayer maps does not equal the Halo 3 singleplayer maps. They're different beasts in terms of geography size. And I'm not saying one is better than another, just that the technical specifications between the two types of games are different.

Which is bigger than the other?

Matters what game type but most UT04 assault and onslaught maps dwarf all of Halo 2's maps completely. So if thats anything.

So since Epic merged assault and onslaught into one gametype for UT3 the maps will be insanely massive. I noticed that even the 1v1 maps are oddly bigger then UT04's in the demo at E3.

I played the behind the scenes single player for Halo 3. =]  its a great game, ill give it that. Fun as hell. If any review gives it below a 9.8 im going to be shocked. Its the best of the 3 games of the franchise. I <3 Game Cock Media for getting me access (and the horrid security that let you make fake business cards saying your apart of company X and they believed it. I was apart of GameSpy lmfao when I worked for PSU).

Anyways, I believe its going to be the highest selling of the 3 with only Halo Wars coming close to passing it.

@Kain - i know you seem to have a distaste for anything with a playstation 3 logo on it (probably would hate yourself for a few moments if someone put PS3 sticker on you) but saying Halo would easily beat it is like saying Crisis looks like the original pokemon games (Blue/Red).

See right there is our middle ground.  The crazy alien technology is extremely small, extremely powerful magnets!  But it is actually kind of fun to think of the ways they could do all this stuff.

I am waiting for an FPS to make a gun that shoots a small ballbearing at 0.9999c.  The effect that would have in atmosphere is catastrophic (even for the shooter).  Realistically it would superheat the air within a fairly large radius of the path but it would also force air out of the path and the air collapsing back in would either crush people or deafen them. I'm not sure how far the ballbearing would go though, there is a lot of things that "could" happen but its all speculation honestly.  The coolest thing would be for it to go until it hits something and explode (Tunguska style).  On second thought that gun would be way too powerful..nevermind =P

Really great looking. Pity I don't own an Xbox360 yet. But I'm getting one for RE5.

You lucky sonofabitch.

Now, go ahead and weasel your way into a Killzone 2 beta and let us know how that turns out. Chop chop!

Hilarious. It's always refreshing to see someone pull in physics to make someone else look stupid, especially when it involves sci-fi.

But whats even funnier is when someone tries play Mr CoolGuy and act like he is better than them by pointing out the things they do like he has seen it all before! Oh damn I just fell into that trap myself!

Lighten up a bit, seriously. (get the irony? do you? aah forget it)

Well I guess we all can't be as kewl as rocketpig /sigh

Edit: PS - Really though remove stick, and have a good time, it won't hurt I promise
