I'm doubting that Nintendo can ship 10m consoles in 4 month :D

They don't need to. Current shipment numbers are higher than the numbers on the front-page, which are sell-through only.
| Soriku said: @Gran Uh...no. I'm REALLY doubting that. |
But i can dream can't i, plus Some of the wii fans on this forum think the wii is going to sell to every person in india and china combined :D
These are shipped not sold.
Numbers don't lie. And I'm guessing Galaxy, Brawl, Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, Mario Kart, WiiFit, Wii Music, Donkey Kong Wii, Kirby Wii, and a Kingdom Hearts spin-off won't do anything for the Wii.

Meh, that seems to be going a bit too far out of your current field of data for extrapolating, don't you think? The PS3 and Wii have only been out a little under ten months, and you want to go all the way through 25? To me, it's just too unreliable. I mean, the formula for each is no doubt solid, but it's still hard to account for all the surprises and changes in shipment numbers (especially for the Wii) that are to come in the next year. I wouldn't be surprised if your numbers turned out to be relatively accurate, but from a statistical perspective, extrapolating that much will always be frowned upon.

I'm not really basing this on statistics, I just want to see how close I am each quarter.
Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony should release their quarterly data in 6 weeks or so, so we'll see.
If anyone is curious, I can post my extended shipment predictions all the way out (basically through 2017) until not one current generation console is sold worldwide.

Looks good to me Source :)
Only comment is I think PS3 is slightly undertracked for the early part of '08 - maybe another 1m or so.
If Sony only ships 4.5m between April - October (2nd/3rd qrts) in '08, they will be in a world of pain. Lots of big titles hitting around 2nd qrt as well.
(assuming sell-through is similar, that's 750k/month - or 160k/week WW. I guess that is probably pretty close actually... :> ).

Then how do you know which are underestimated and which are overestimated? Sort of a conflicting message. But I believe it is wrong anyways, and I will explain why....
The idea that anything can change just because the Wii seemed to come out of no where fails to address the situation and instead tries to quantify the situation as just a random roll of the dice that Nintendo was lucky enough to win. This is not the case.
Statistics and formulas work just fine this generation. The only real surprise for anyone was the Wii's success. But since that initial surprise there hasn't been a lot(any?) of new surprises. Everything has pretty much continued unchanged which is exactly why this sort of analysis is valid when viewed in the proper context.
All of the factors that allowed people to be surprised are gone or fading quickly. There was no sales data for people to estimate sales predictions - We have plenty of sales data now. There was the most crucial point in a consoles life, its launch. - Which is done and over with. If anything the situation is stabalizing by the minute and things are becoming more and more predictable with every week of data that comes in. This idea that there could be another shift lingering ahead, while possible, is completely unfounded.
If you want to assert that anything can cause a massive change this generation you should at least make a case for it beyond simply banking on the shoulder-shrugging views of the uninformed consumer.

Ummmm... please tell me that you "think" the wii will have a life span of 9 years. I just don't think it will go on much after 2010, maybe 2011 before Nintendo comes out with a new console. If it does have a life span of that long, I just don't think that they will have the sales numbers to justify shipping that many consoles as the tastes of consumers will change with time that the more powerful systems can offer consumers as most consumers will be in the HDTV ownership category and wanting a HD capable system. Just my opinion and not trying to knock the hard work you put into this.
The good thing is, that we can see exactly what happens as the time passes. :)
