16m is not that big given that so many have been released, and I would assume that the group of people you continue to buy these games is not that large, but they just buy all the games released and Sony's social games are nothing compared to Nintendo's I think they should try and copy Mario cart or something like that to expand the casual audience

Right so a game which has sold on average 4 million a year is not that big? It does not matter if the same people are buying the game as the fact of the matter is that 16M units of a karaoke series have been sold. Sony have a casual audience with a franchise named GT, go look it up.

So there are not that many sales on every game, but I will admit it is a decent franchise

@ Munkeh

You could of course say, that with that many titles out in such a short time, it is quite clear that they don't need to sell that much to break even

Around the Network

Of course it will probably make a good amount of money, but whether or not it is that large a franchise is another question

Bring on the Wireless mics on friday! They are in 'packing' at the moment

I personally love playing Singstar with friends after a few drinks and have downloaded about 15 tracks since i got the game! The Queen addition will be a welcome addition to my game library!

Honestly every version of Singstar is the same game.  They just have different tracks (think of it as pokemon red/blue/yellow but with musical differences). Which is even more true now that they have the singstore(quite a profit maker  with 4 million downloaded tracks).  The series has little appeal in the West where kareoke isn't nearly as big as it is in Europe or Japan. This series simply lacks the marketing of the Wii series or Guitar Hero(I have never seen a commercial for it except the ones that  come on the  disc) and the PS3 is pretty price prohibitive for people who just wanna get their sing on.

If anyone wants to know the full top 10 of song downloads

http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/03/17/the-shameful-top-10-singstar-downloads/

Sony has revealed the disturbing list of top SingStar tracks downloaded from the SingStore. The Guardian is clearly of the same mindset as us when it speculates that only the impulsive purchases of those coming home after a long night of drinking at the pub can explain this list:

10. "American Pie" - Don McLean
9. "Baby One More Time" - Britney Spears
8. "Take On Me" - A-ha
7. "Eye Of The Tiger" - Survivor
6. "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" - Cyndi Lauper
5. "Torn" - Natalie Imbruglia
4. "Suspicious Minds" - Elvis Presley
3. "Just Like A Pill" - P!nk
2. "Final Countdown" - Europe
1. "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" - Bonnie Tyler

Since the launch of the SingStore, four million songs have been purchased from the service. A majority of these tracks are from the '80s, with the artists split across genders. We're just stuck on "Total Eclipse of the Heart" in the top spot -- really!?

---------------------------
I'm still wondering how that top 10 is in any way shameful. American Pie is a fantastic song, Eye of the Tiger is great, Take on Me and The Final Countdown are good
What were they expecting?

Only ones I downloaded ere American Pie and Take On Me. I haven't touched my copy of Singstar in about 8 months.

Do you get the full 8-min-and-a-half version of American Pie? Must be hard to sing that. Still, the song is awesome, I love it
