Forums - Gaming - BEST looking game this year (heavy rain)

Your adding a lot to the topic.

Also, Heavy Rain doesn't have "gameplay" necessarily. The game is "played" out in a series of interactive cutscene quick-time events, ala Indigo Prohphecy. The games strength is based on its quality of narrative, and gameplay itself becomes a much less important feature, again, like Indigo Prophecy.

In fact, the game is a spiritual sucessor to Indigo Prophecy, and anyone who has played that excellent game should know what to expect.

As far as best "looking" game of the year, well, Killzone 2 looks pretty good, but Warhead came out last year I believe, and it looks better than Killzone 2. Alan Wake on computer looks to have some excellent backdrops which will probably encompass some functional gameplay as well. Besides that we have underdogs like Flower.

However, assuming the Heavy Rain has the best graphics is like saying the Blu-Ray version of The Dark Knight has the best graphics on any console. It's a good looking rendered movie, granted, but we haven't seen the scope of the true functional realtime gameplay yet(which if its my guess, like Indigo Prophecy, there won't be any, besides maybe a sneaking mission here or there, and all action will take place inside excellently rendered quick-time events), so...why?

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Just watched the video and the game does look better than last time I saw it but it verified my fears that it just a series of quick time events.

I'm sorry, the game looks wonderful but nothing shows off how uncreative and lazy of a designer you are than throwing quick time event after quick time event.

Come on, T. Play Indigo Prophecy. Then you will know that you are absolutely right.

However, it's not as bad as you might expect. Indigo had a real noire feel to the game, and it was almost a point and click adventure, with real time events as the only gameplay element, with some really inventive features to keep you thinking(and it was dead sexy).

Yes, the gameplay is shit, but like a good point and click adventure, the pointing and clicking is usually just a circumstatial cause of the fun, and not necessarily your center of attention.

its made by the people doing heavy rain, heavy rain in a sense is a sequel but not really lol

indigo prophecy is a fun game, and heavy rain looks to be using alot of the same elements from it (gameplay wise) which is nice. and yes its story driven and was nice graphics at its time (just like heavy rain appears to be)

your fears should of been verified long ago, indigo prophecy. anyways the game is dependent on qte's but its not an overdose. it was pretty damn good fun. and so will heavy rain. dont knock it before you rock it.

Then should you also be telling the same thing to people that thinks this game will be one of the best gamers of the year?

depending on what actually comes out this year, it could be. its going to be a great game, just like indigo prophecy. probably only a cult hit though. but still, in the minds of those who love the game this will be game of the year material. so don't go shooting down their dreams just because you have an vendetta against qte's

This is where it turns into hypocracy. If person A gets scolded after saying that the game looks mediocre (which would be purely opinion), why should person B be allowed to say that the game looks great?

my basis is solely on the fact ive played and like indigo prophecy. now this is infact opinion and i could be proven wrong after playing heavy rain whenever its released. but as of now based on their past game i say this. but i was not scolding it was more trying to see what's so wrong with qte in a game. if he hates it thats fine with me just wondering whats wrong with qte's

Nothing is wrong with QTE's when your format is Bluray and you can make as many as you want. Every frame of animation could be a QTE and the'll probly still have 30 gigs of memory left. ;)

Can't wait for this PS3 exclusive. Can't wait for Alan Wake either, on PC.

Well hey, based off every game I've played with quick time events I say I don't like quick time events.

It's been on my list of games to play for who knows how long just never got around to it, though I have to admit, hearing that it's all about QTE (nobody told me that >_>) it did just fall a little lower on my list.

I cannot stress this enough, I hate quick time events.  I'll tolerate the occasional one and just grumble quietly to myself but I just can't imagine how much a game full of them would bother me.

you got that right¡¡¡. that game looks incredile¡¡¡¡, almost real¡¡¡.

whoever says heavy rain is just qte after qte doesn't know what they are talking about. anyone who has played indigo prophecy will tell you this.

ot: how can anyone make such a statement without having played it? if you are going to include unreleased games, alan wake, uncharted 2, the next team ico game, gow3 and possibly maybe the new fight night would like to say hello.

it would be far more reasonable and honest to say it may be the best looking game this year!

I think Flower looks better but I still need to play both to be sure.

I agree, Flower looks incredible. Heavy Rain looks good, but I'll wait 'till I've played it to judge for sure... Now, I'm off to play Flower ^_^
