Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo at GDC: No big game announcements

Iwata is at GDC because of the DSi and MAYBE M+, why is that so hard to understand? He isnt going there to announce games, we all know that. He is going to give a keynote on how developers can use new tools to create games. It's all about the DSi and M+. I'd say no games even showcased.

And you don't think they'll have a new game there that utilizes these things to show them how it's done?  Come on, think about it--they won't just show Wii Sports Resort, as that's already been shown off well.  So, are they just going to say "here's the device" and that's that?  How exactly do you show them how to create a game without showing them a game?

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

I hope there will be some Endless Ocean info.... I want to see some more pictures

Yes, I believe that. Wii Sports Resort needs to start building up hype and this is the last chance before E3. It's gonna be DSi + DSiWare and M+ with WSR as the showcase game. Why are people expecting new games? I remember E3 last year, and how everyone said Nintendo was going to announce heaps of games and it didn't happen. GDC is even smaller and it isnt an expo in the same vein as E3, but a conference for development talks and stuff.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

idk if there will be much of anything at GDC. Its usually not that big of a stage and only recently got kinda popular because M$ used it to unveil Gears 2.

Long Live SHIO!

I remember E3 clearly, and it was a terrible let-down.  I also remember several of them, including Iwata and Miyamoto, admitting how utterly horrible their show was.

Ah, but thats just it, Wii Sports Resort has not been shown off well. They showed 3 games out of a target of about 10 games. A full exposition of Wii Sports Resort would be ideal

However, i think the focus will be about the core ideals of Wii and DS development in general, which will lead, perhaps, to a few more obscure reveals.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Nintendo has to do a MUCH better job at keeping people like me interested in the Wii. I've said on this board many times that I've barely touched it in months. I play the occasional Super Mario World/64/Galaxy and a little Raving Rabbids with my son. The only game on the horizon that interests me in the least is Punchout. I really hope it turns out to be good. I really want to get back into my Wii, but the prospects of that don't seem great. On the flipside, my PS3 gets used every day and I can't seem to keep up with my wishlist. Please, Nintendo...why won't you let me love you again?

Keep this in mind when reading what I type...

I've been gaming longer than many of you have been alive.

@thekitchensink: But that's why, this isn't E3. We will have to wait for E3 for any announcements. And yet I'm not expecting anyhting either.

GDC was never been the place for such announcements

You do know GDC is an industry/professional event and not a media event correct? Studios can use GDC to announce things but that isn't the focus of GDC.
