Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo at GDC: No big game announcements

So here is my prediction... there will be no big game announcements from Nintendo at this months GDC.

The reason being we have so little information about Excitebots and Punch out that I feel Nintendo will devote all their focus to pushing these two titles.

ExciteBots is out in ONE MONTH and barely anyone has had a hands-on session with the game.

Punch Out is out in just TWO MONTHS and no one has a clue how the motion controls will work with the game and if it will be a worthy update to the series.

If Nintendo doesnt focus big time on these two games SOON they will have poor sales when they arrive on the market.

They won't even show these games. It's all about the DSi this time. Look at how they didnt even mention Disaster, Mario Super Sluggers or Wario Land at E3 and they came out like 1 month after.

Forget about them hyping games that aren't either casual or big franchise. Won't happen.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

Knowing nintendo though if they are going into this event with the goal of pushing these two games, then I doubt they would want to distract gamers with a big time teaser trailer for something like Zelda or Pikmin

They need the online community to be focused on Punch out and excitebots asap because they are so close to release

I just think they will wait till E3 for any major announcements

personally I don't care what they do.

their showings have been generally bad, and hated on.

I don't think they care too much.

total DSi roll out is my prediction as well

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

Iwata's keynoting this year, and he always tends to unveil a pretty big new game when he talks at GDC.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Nintendo is making money off the Blue Ocean, not the demographics present at GDCm or even E3. They have no reason to showcase something, with a trailer, or otherwise, unless it appeals to the traditional demographic present at these shows.

In short, they have nothing to prove. Thus, no trailers, etc. needed.  If its something they feel will wow people at GDC, they'll show it, otherwise they are content to be in the money-making room.

I think we'll see some smaller game announcements.

Iwata is at GDC because of the DSi and MAYBE M+, why is that so hard to understand? He isnt going there to announce games, we all know that. He is going to give a keynote on how developers can use new tools to create games. It's all about the DSi and M+. I'd say no games even showcased.

I have to go with trestres on this one.

If Nintendo's games are this close to release, odds are that they won't advertise them in the least bit.

Nintendo has lots of tricks up their sleeves.
