Forums - Microsoft - Hard Drives

Hey Everyone,

I'm fairly new to the site. I have a question for all of you xbox users out there. I own a wii and really want to take the plunge with the xbox 360. I am looking at the different models available and the only difference seems to be the hard drives. How much do people use their hard rives and what do they put on it? Does DLC take up a lot of room? Any thoughts on the subject?

Get the pro it comes with so much more that you will not regred it. Also yes if you plan to download anything you need a hardrive the memory card doesnt fit much.

DLC for certain games can be about 1GB (Fallout 3, GTA4, mappacks for Halo 3 & CoD4)

You can also download movies and XboxLive Arcade games (but they aren't that huge) and well now you can copy a game to your harddrive.
The result is your game will see a boost in loading speed while playing. (Some games are more affected by this than others)

For some games a HDD is required ! (Halo 3 co-op, Burnout Paradise and 2 others I think)

I would recommend a 60GB HDD, so go for the Pro model.

Is DLC associated with an account so that I could download it, play it, delete it, and then download it again at a later dater if I choose? Also, how much space do games take up if loaded onto the hardrive?

I got the 20 gig model, and i'm running out of space. I have about 9 gig left after the stuff ive downloaded. And when you install a game to the harddrvie, it takes up about 5-7 gig. So i can only put on 1 game at a time.

I would definately recommend the 60gig.

..I think you can redownload things a few times.  But im not 100% sure about that.

Go pro. Get the 60 GB model. it is well worth it because if you plan on installing any games to your hard drive theyre 6+ gigs each and also DLC is several hundred MB a pop so it all adds up quickly. Either way you will want the pro r elite especially because they have HD cables

Long Live SHIO!

So the consensus seems to be that 60GB is enough space. I always thought the elite seemed to be a little bit excessive. Do people agree that elite is probably unnecessary for the average player?

Unless you store all of your games at the same time on your HDD.... yeah the Elite is unnecessary for the average gamer (Or do you like your consoles black ? ).

I suggest you go look at the recommended games sticky for some awesome and cheap starter games.

Tease.

I plan on starting with some of the older games like Halo 3, gears of War 1, and Bioshock. I figure that since I am used to Wii graphics, these olders games will still look awesome. I later want to into Fallout 3, Gears 2, and Mass Effect. I figure that could keep busy for a while.

One of the other main cocnerns I had was the red light of death I have heard so much about. Is this still a concern with newly purchased concoles? I would like to think that they have worked the bugs out. Is there any truth to this? It sounds like installing games on the console would help.
