When Nintendo released the GC how many colours came out? 5? Nintendo wanted to give you options. Make the core gamer happy to own whatever colour they wanted.

Ok this is sorta jerky, but how hard is it to add black dye to plastic? hard? nope. It's easy. Alternate colour Wii were specifically held back for this trend. The new colour and the next wave of core games coming out are to appeal to the core market, assist with a hesitant market and get some people to rebuy for the new color.

The over all maybe down for this year, but we are in the third year. Next year we will see an increase compared to this year.

This will revert later this month. Wii Sports Resort and Wii Motion Plus will easily help bring 2009 back into parity with 2008.

The drop is only recent as last year had Super Smash Bros Brawl, Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii all release real close together whereas this year only had Punch-Out!! during the same time frame.

@viper: WSR is coming out in late July, only Japan gets it in late June. But yeah sales will recover in the second half, but will keep going down until July. Probably Wii will be 1 - 1.5 million down from 2008.

Nintendo will explode with sales in couple of months and especially with sales Next year.....with those games coming "the big 3 legendary ones"

As Denise Kaigler pointed out, 2008 had the triple punch of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit in the first half where as this year's triple punch of Wii Sports Resort, Wii Fit Plus and New Super Mario Bros. Wii is coming in the second half. Sales will explode very soon, don't worry tres :)
