Forums - Nintendo - Call of Duty: World at War (Wii) has sold 1m copies.

Activision credited the game with being among the hits that helped their profits. Claiming it's not impressive, when the very company that makes it is impressed, in this economy, just makes one a liar for claiming that.

Given that it's sold a fraction on double the user base it's not really that brag worthy. All this shows is that the audience for this kind of game is drastically smaller than on the other consoles, and the % of wii owners interested in this sort of game is even more drastic compared to the other consoles.

An audience exists? Yes, but if the team that made WAW on wii had instead been split up and put making two much cheaper family party games would they have profited more? I think that is the real question the publishers will be looking a

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

These numbers are far from impressive considering the size of the userbase.

That means every other PS2 million seller cannot impress you, especially those made in the last few years. I hope you think God Of War 1 & 2 are far from impressive.

Or else you can admit attach rate is a bullshit measurement, used as a spin machine.

Publishers don't care about a laundry list of reasons that it didn't do as well on wii as it did on the PS360. Saying "well the last COD on wii sucked, it was gimped in features (which will always be a problem with PS360 ports), it didn't have the COD4 base, ect ect. That means nothing to publishers. Dollars made by a team is what they care about, and if they think they can get more bang for their buck making an on rails shooter, a kart racer, or cheap liscense game (hannah montana, sponge bob ect) then that is the direction they will go.

I'm not saying wii won't get COD4 2. I'm just saying, 1 million isn't something to brag about from a publisher standpoint.

Come on, you're smarter than that. Here's a list of games that didn't do as good as CoD Wii:

Far Cry 2 PS3

Prince of Persia PS3

Saints Row 2 PS3

Dead Space PS3

Rock Band 2 PS3

Dead Space Xbox 360

The Orange Box Xbox 360

Prince of Persia Xbox 360

Shaun White Snowboarding Xbox 360

And many, many, many more.

Are you saying that all those companies would have been better off scrapping these games and releasing Wii party games instead?

But most of these games will sell 1million anyway, should we brag then?

That's not the point. See the last part of the statement.

Although true in a lot of ways, I think we forget the Wii versions missed out on COD4.  Before this the console versions were only selling about 1-2 million lifetime.  COD4 was the first one to actually change that.

I think if Wii was able to jump with those increases by having a COD4 that it WaW would be selling even better.  Possibly us talking about it crossing 2 million right now.

Of course that's a big what if but I think it plays into it.

And compare CoD3 sales on the Wii and PS3. Very close. The 360 version sold more, but it had 2. The other systems didn't.
