Forums - Nintendo - Should I get Sonic & The Black Knight?

IMO, I prefer the advance series over rush (except for advance 2, that was a terrible peice of crap).

But yeah, I would sorta recommend Sonic Rush (even though im not that fond of it, but everyone else is). Dunno about Rush Adventure, it felt like a very stale game with some awful boat system added to it.

EDIT: I forgot to quote Riot Of The Blood.

I liked it =/

Yeah I'll second the people recommending the DS and GBA games. Those seemed really solid.

I don't know why people complain so much about speed in Sonic.
Sonic always played feaster the the others plataform games, but...................
Sonic 1, 2 and 3 never felt that fast.
Neither the saturn one (I don't remenber the name)
No to mentioning that searching chaos emeralds in Sonic & Knucles 3 slowed a lot the game. (By the way is my favorite in the whole franchise)
SA 2 and SR felt a lot faster, but not as good as S&K 3, for me.
My copy of S&BK will arrive tomorow, I'm pretty sure I will like it.

EDIT: GBA's ones also don't feel fast. If there are chaos emeralds in the game I need to search them, I love super sonic form.

Yeah, I don't get it either. (see: my sig) I hate it when people says the Sonic is about just pure speed and nothing else. :/

The only Sonic game I can think of where he was really awfully slow was Sonic 06.

But of course, not defending Black Knight as I've yet to try it.

Here's the reason why everybody always says Sonic is about speed. Because for the most part everytime Sega has tried to add other elements they have failed. People like me who were annoyed at the warehog levels mostly didn't have a problem with the concept. It was the execution where Sega let us down. If it had been like a Sega God of War I think people would have been far nicer.

Sadly the same problem applies to Black Knight, there is no problem with Sonic having a sword, if it is done right. Sadly it isn't. The video, while pretty flambaitish does point out how poorly this game is put together by completing a level by pushing forward and waggling.

I've always been a Sega guy from the late 80's but I think right now what Sonic needs is a serious reboot. Perhaps letting this game fail will get Sega to try and make a real heir to the franchise instead of endless gimmicks who hype dies the second people actually play them.

I already own rush... Rush adventure is prob. gonna be a game I'll buy over the summer for on the road... and I already have plenty of portable games... but I plan to play this game... I might just wait until it's in the bargain bin... and buy MadWorld now... or buy S&TBK used... maybe off of eBay... maybe I'll still buy it at full price, but I'm gonna need someone to send me a good gameplay vid, or actually get to try it first (maybe I can start my GameFly free trial, lol)

Hm... Well... I want Sonic & The Black Knight, but before you suggest anything:

  1. I am a sonic fan, and a member of the Sonic Support Squad. Don't bash Sonic in general.
And an awesome one at that.
  2. I am a long-time Sonic fan, and Sonic3K was my favorite...
    2 for 2!
  3. DIMPS FTW! SR was awesome...
You're on a roll (I loved the Sonic Advance and Rush series as well)!
  4. I absolutely LOVED Secret Rings, more than SA2... possibly more than SA1...
Hm, that's a very interesting point... (As did I).
  5. Although I still haven't beaten it yet due to the accuisition of newer games, I thought the daytime sections of Unleashed were amazing, and the game overall was good, the Werehog sucked, and has kept me from finishing the game as of yet...
Same here, the werehog levels are just too... unlike Sonic (which is some of the criticisms of Black Knight, which I disagree with). I still need to beat the game!
  6. I actually, to an extent, liked Shadow The Hedgehog... I beat it all the way through, I liked it, and the gunplay made it fun (I avoided vehicles) but in order to beat the repeating levels (the exact same path over again w/ a diff. ending), I got my brother to beat them for me... So that game isn't as god-awful to me as everyone said it was
    Never played it.
  7. I HATED SONIC '06. That game was garbage. I bought it for $10 on clearance, just to see how bad it was, and it was pretty damn close... I ended up beating it, and I have only played the multiplayer about 5 times and shown off its terrible-ness and never touched it again...
Never played that one either (and I don't intend to...).

Thanks for the PM LCEC, and thanks for letting me throw my two cents in this pickle you're in.

If you really liked Secret Rings and Unleashed's Daytime levels, even moreso than Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, then I would recommend getting Sonic & the Black Knight. The game seems to be a combination between the two games (Unleashed and Secret Rings), and it works out pretty darn well. From Secret Rings, it takes the camera style (doesn't switch to 2D like in Unleashed), special meter bar (which is great), and the whole "storybook" story (which I'm sure you're well informed). From Unleashed, it takes Sonic's daytime control scheme and speed, and the Werehog's nighttime baddy brawling.

All in all, it can end up being a mixed bag, especially with the uninspired "waggle" controls (I do hate using Waggle, but that's what it ends up being when it comes to basic sword controls). Still, the speed is there... which feels great. Both the action and the footwork is fast and (mostly) painless. So yeah, I would recommend a rental if nothing else. I'm playing and more importantly enjoying the game (Shadow, Knuckles, and Blaze are playable in the game. Knuckles is awesome... so awesome. ), and I think you would too.

Cheers, and happy gaming.

Graphics look good on this one.. but I dont know why the controls are so poor.. give it a pass.. unleashed on the 360 wasnt so bad.. ill wait for a sequel on that one instead..

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

You are right on. I don't care for the game, but the graphics are really superb.
