I have it. My impressions:

It's a great game. It's a big middle finger to all Suikoden fans. They removed every single staple from the series except for the 108 stars and the castle. Honestly, Konami, I know the games didn't sell and you wanted to reinvent it, but this is alienating. The game's good, there's no denying that, but it only has the Suikoden name to cash in more buyers. I wouldn't complain if the game was called otherwise, but this is not a Suikoden.

The battle system's great, the story seems ok, the music is excellent, the anime cutscenes look good, the japanese voices are superb, there are no load times, battles are over in a flash...but this is no Suikoden.

Honestly, I've never been so torn in a game, I acknowledge that it's a great game, but I'm so pissed about what Konami did at the same time

It sounds like an interesting game, never played Suikoden before though.

Play it. Just don't base the other Suikodens on what you see in this one

Sure, I need some more DS RPGs! 

Well, I'm sure that since NOTHING is carried from previous Suikoden, it's as good place as any to start, as you won't be missing anything
