Forums - Sales - Is the end of Wii finally beginning in Japan?

Hardware | This Week | Last Week
NDS | 43,342 | 47,601
PSP | 59,568 | 35,588
WII | 16,560 | 17,876
PS3 | 39,835 | 36,513
360 | 14,994 | 11,795
PS2 | 4,954 | 5,099

The newest media create sales are above..personaly I like to combine hi def sales because that market is basically the same users. If you do that, HD sold 54k versus 16k for Wii. That's over 3-1.

Additionally, I saw a february japan software sales chart..something like 8 of the top ten was Sony or 360. Nintendo only had 2 of ten for the month.

Next, we have the USA, just in the last month, for the first time EVER, Wii's have remained in stock at Amazon.com and major retailers for weeks on end. This has never happened before. Sure, Wii is liable to sell nearly 800K for the month, but might it begin to decline from there as demand is finally satiated? The point is regardless of sales, Wii has never been able to stay in stock before. I went to Best Buy recently I saw like 8 on the shelf. Next time I saw like 20.

Gaming trends often start in Japan. The DS becoming a phenomenon is the great example of that. Is the Wii losing popularity the next one?

Jeep it's doomed, dead , buried nothing can save it.... sigh......

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

lol you can't combine the 360 and PS3, unless you want to combine the Wii and DS since those are both the casual markets.

And being able to walk into a store and buy the Wii isn't the end of the Wii unless you can say the Xbox 360 died in 2006 and the PS3 died early 2007.

You do have to put things into perspective: the last two months have seen the release of about a dozen highly anticipated core games on the 360 and PS3 both in Japan, as well as a fair few PSP sleeper hits. What has the Wii gotten that's been highly anticipated recently? The last one I recall was Animal Crossing, and that was back in December. So in that light, the Wii getting eclipsed at the moment by the HD Twins in Japan is not surprising at all.

Honestly, with no pack-in system seller like Wii Sports to push the system along and the fast drop in interest over there for the Wii Four that dominate Europe and America, I'm not surprised at all by this turn. Though I am disappointed in Nintendo for thinking that it was a good idea to not pack in Wii Sports in Japan in order to keep the price more competitive. That's exactly the wrong sort of thinking to take when implementing a Blue Ocean Strategy; you stick in every advantage you can to minimize risk of failure, not remove risk-minimizers to make a "more competitive" product. The whole idea behind a BOS is that you're making competition irrelevant.

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

It's not the end but you really couldn't expect the Wii to be sold out forever could you? 2+ years is a long time.

You're also forgetting that there have been several major PS3/360 launches in Japan in the past month, where as nothing of really comparable hype for Wii.

in japan wii fit isn't as big it sells well on weekly basis but not enough to maintain the wii over 20k.

i think it's because they are more healthy that us in the american continent.

@skyrender but also the wii its cheap in japan 211$, only 360 it's cheaper cost the same as the DSi and the PSP.

the only games i can tell will give a bump to the wii are dragon quest X thats it's at least 2 years away, it's square enix after all.
and monster hunter tri which it's hard to predict since the previous console iterations weren't as big, and have only sold great on the PSP.
and last wii sport 2, and motion plus but only if bundle if not it will cause a small bump the game will have legs due first wii sport sold decent and it wasn't expensive.
so the things that nintendo can do now, its price cut and new colors in japan.

in the ends it's just a slow down i will pick up when more games are released, but the same could happen to the ps3 since it can have more price cuts and the games are being released now.
360 on other no longer have JRPGs what i can think of its soon trying to get other timed exclusives from other japanese studios.

japan it's the most interesting on the 3 markets, it's more competitive.
