For $4 or $5 More, You Will Have ‘Resident Evil 5′ Competitive Multiplayer [UPDATED]

Capcom confirmed today that “Resident Evil 5” will indeed have competitive multiplayer modes — but that you’ll have to wait and pay extra for them.

***

The new Versus mode for “Resident Evil 5” will be downloadable on the PS3 and Xbox 360 online store “a few weeks” after tomorrow’s launch of the game, according to a Capcom announcement today.

The company provided the following details:

Versus allows up to four players to match wits in online battles across two very different game types. Slayer’s Rule is a point-based game that challenges players to kill Majinis. In Survivor’s Rule, players hunt the most dangerous game, each other! Players can begin the hunt as Chris, Sheva or other secret characters, and choose from either one-on-one or two-versus-two team matches for either of the two gameplay styles.

he game ships tomorrow with full two-player campaign co-op, online and split-screen.

The add-on will cost 400 points on the XBox 360, which comes to $5. On the PS3, the add-on will cost $3.99. Capcom didn’t indicate the reason for the price difference.

“RE5″ fans, will you be buying this add-on?

[UPDATE, 1:57pm: We reached out to Capcom about the price difference between the two platforms, and they replied with a press release saying that it was a typo; the PS3 version is indeed $4.99, not $3.99. Therefore, both platforms are approximately the same price.]

How funny...the thread was even updated with the new price...and yet you still titled it with the 4 or 5 dollar line.

damn capcom. another cheap way to get some buck

Why Capcom? Why release a incomplete game? This is utter non-sense. We shouldn't have to pay extra for features that should have been included in the original packaging of the game. This DLC should be made free, with a update that includes it. Not 5 dollars extra.

Sorry Capcom, this is 5 dollars your not getting and a ton of respect that you've lost from me.

Why must JRPG female leads suck so bad?

lol. That would be pretty funny if the PS3 DLC was cheaper.

The "DLC" for Street Fighter IV was already on the disk. We had to pay to unlock it. Part of me thinks that this new Resident Evil DLC is going to go the same route. I doubt I'll play it very much, but I'll probably buy it. I'm a fool.

Screw this, I am no longer getting the game. They aren't getting my money. Paying for an online mode? The PSN is brilliant for a reason...

Honestly, RE multiplayer would be sloppy as hell.

No thanks, i'll pass.

looks average.

I'll be voting with my wallet and not buying the DLC nor RE5.
With the costumes for SFIV and now the multiplayer modes for RE5, Capcom managed to turn me off completely from their products.
Every gamer who is sick and tired of being sold incomplete and gimped games so that $5 extras can be released two weeks later, should resist the urgency to play and eventually buy it used if they really need to.
If we don't send a signal what's next? Games where you have to buy a proper ending? Oh, wait... Games where you can buy gold or better weapons? Oh, drat...
Can anybody come out with an example of a low point that game companies haven't reached yet? I'm at a loss here :)
