Forums - Sales - What do you think of "Star Ocean: The Last Hope" sales?

I think in NA they can sell over 400k within 1 years in Japan 350k in PAL 250k , life time sell should be 1 million or higher

Game sold only 60k first week, in order to hit 400k, let alone 300k you have to expect this game to have legs comparable or better than a Final Fantasy.

I am not sure if JRPGs other than Final Fantasy ever had those kind of legs.

Anyone know of a JRPG with legs that allowed it to have lifetime sales 500-600% better than launch week sales in Americas?

SE got its money , so i dont think they care what it sells.
400k lifetime in America

I think it's rather premature (still) to argue where SO4 is going to be at in terms of American LTD sales.

However, looking at Blue Dragon, Star Ocean 4 had a much better 2nd week - it's up 7,000 units (23k to 30k). Blue Dragon had a similar opening (BD @ 60k, SO4 @ 65k), and Blue Dragon had great legs - it managed a 6x multiplier.

So if we want to only go with 2 weeks of data, it should trend like Blue Dragon, and hit 390,000 in North America. Far cry from SO3 in NA, but not nearly as bad as your 250k prediction.

You could be right, but I think BD sales only did that because it was really the only JRPG available on the 360 until Lost Odyssey arrived.

The fact that Star Ocean is pretty much Enix's flagship series in the Americas and is possibly going to be beat by new IP's isn't good in my opinion.

Ok, S-E got their money but in the end potentially wind up really hurting their franchise's userbase.

As a fan of the series I really don't agree with their greedy decision.

Of course I still picked it up though. I also found me a nice new copy of Vesperia lastnight as well.

Thats odd i could have sworn Final Fantasy was the flagship in the U.S !

It's doing better than most people expected.

Still, it was never going to sell millions.

@ hatmoza 2.0

That is why I said "Enix's flaship series in the Americas".

Definitely would have if it was multiplatform. It would have been a much healthier choice for the future of the series.

I say the same thing frequently about Valkyria Chronicles as well.

At this point if I am right that means it achieves only 33% of the sales on over 60% of the userbase at the time it is almost like they sent it out to die. That or they really expected it to sell better than this.

This goes right along with my original assertion, when I said they cut the fanbase in half.

"sales" doesn't matter
"shipments" does
