Forums - Nintendo - Capcom's Wii Engine problem and Resident Evil

Too much talk. Why don't we all do the right thing and boycott Capcom. When we boycotted Ubisoft we forced them to make an original Shaun White for Wii. If we boycott Capcom and don't buy their ports and tests and rails and trains they will have no choice but to release an original proper Resident Evil for Wii.

Oh and don't forget that video games as they are today are from Japan; this is the concept of consoles created by Nintendo, making the user one with a controller and a focus on game play.

Saying Japan is no longer a viable market is wrong, we have VGC's numbers which show that perceived value is a strong determining factor in that region, should consoles reach a cultural opus again then we would see it sell comparatively in quantity even the US which has a much larger population. (See DS and PSP)

Japanese developers if anything have been trying or at least making it known publicly that they view western trends to be the future of gaming. Those 2nd generation developers and sadly some of the 1st generation developers that say this will reap what they sow.

These guys have lost their ears, and when they speak they don't know what they are saying, the games are their words and it shows - even Nintendo went off on this path, I mean they haven't even made a poke'mon mmo on the GC XD. (My fantasy I know =P) Ok everything I just typed was a joke for the most part, apparently I'm trolling myself. V_V

I'll have some of what you're on. LOL

Boycott of Ubisoft forced them to make Shaun White for the Wii? Wow, that is a stretch. Do you know what boycotts do? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. People have tried this with fuel companies (Mobil, Exxon, etc) to no avail, and Ubisoft probably didn't even know there was a boycott by 500 forum posters or whatever.

Boycotts no longer work because the population has grown too big to get the word out to make it effective enough. If this was 1935, sure, it might work. But now, it does nothing at all.

I can also say this now that someone else let it slip, but apparently Capcom's MT Framework engine that they develop almost all their next gen games on isn't Wii compatible.

Well, what a surprise! An engine designed for the 360/PS3 isn't compatible with the Wii... wow!

</not>

They have the RE4 engine. Its not *that* hard to extend it, to take proper use of the additional Wii features (memory, extra shaders, etc).

I'd even be happy with a re-mixed RE4 - new scenarios (etc).

Don't be too hard on Ubisoft or EA. At least Unisoft made specific Wii version of Shaun White and it turned out great. As for EA, Grand Slam Tennis and Tiger Woods 10 look like two great titles exclusive for Wii based on IGN's hand-on. At least they are trying.

Yeah, looking back on what I wrote I think I came across far more negatively against those two than I intended to be. While both companies are still putting their best teams on other systems, they're also bringing Wii owners quality stuff like Grand Slam Tennis (Day One for me), the new Boom Blox, Broken Sword (also Day One), Red Steel 2, and more.

Mostly I included them as examples, because a lot of folks here seem to think that they're slighting Wii owners.

Without reading anything in this thread I call bullshit.

If Dead Rising was made, then Resident Evil 5 can be made.

I do not want Resident Evil 5 personally, but there is a level of disrespect going on here. They claim to have had DarkSide Chronicles in production immediately after releasing Umbrella Chronicles but they never had any plans for a proper Resident Evil game even though Resident Evil 4 sold extremely well? That sounds a bit... fishy... to me.

I do not need to go into any more details than to say I am disappointed with Capcom about this situation. As a person that is not interested in Resident Evil, I was most interested in the companies integrity towards this topic. They have let me down.

However, Monster Hunter G and 3 are games I will definitely buy and the fact that Tatsunoko vs Capcom shits all over Street FIghter IV is extremely gratifying. Capcom is iffy with me, but I have no plans to stop buying the quality products they put out. However, DarkSide Chronicles is a game I have no plans to buy.

That is how I feel all Wii owners should approach this situation. Vote with your dollar. Do not buy DarkSide Chronicles, but reward thee efforts you want to see more of. Check out my Wii games collection, there are plenty of other good to great games out there worth playing. If Capcom wants to fuck us around over this series, then let them know (with your dollar) that it will not be tolerated. But let them know what we WILL tolerate as well. Lets not boycott Capcom as that can be decadent.

They are just lazy and don't want to spend so much money on a Wii engine. Too bad they can't use Nintendo's engine it runs at a perfect 60 frames per second. Or High Voltage Software which is only 30 frames per second but still good.

As far as I know, Nintendo has a custom engine for each game.

They never said they don't have plans. We didn't know about DC until a couple days ago. Why? Because they didn't announce it until just now.

All this shows is that if any other games are in development for the Wii that we haven't heard of, DC was ready to show first.

@ LordTheNightKnight:

Edit: I see what you are saying and all but my post was about a lot more than what you responded to.

If they decide to make a traditional Resident Evil game, then Wii owners that are interested should pick it up. All I really was trying to say was, Resident Evil 4 engine was used (and wasted) for Dead Rising but it seems a bit much to ask for another traditional Resident Evil game. They could have spent that time making a Resident Evil game and had MUCH to show for it. Instead, they have given Wii owners a lot of nothing. I just understand how people can be upset.

And my statement was to say, "Hey, Capcom made plans for a rail shooter game before checking out sales of Umbrella Chronicles. Yet, to have them say something like that about a new, traditional Resident Evil game is asking a bit much now?" I was not trying to really imply that a traditional Resident Evil could not be in development; rather, that it seems so unlikely going by what they have said and are saying right now.

Seems unlikely to you, seems reasonable to me. But that's because I've seen Capcom has not announced any specific games in the past several months unless there is something to show for it.

Dead Rising 2: Screens and a trailer.

Lost Planet 2: Same thing.

RE: Dark Chronicles: Same thing.

HD Remixes: Nothing to show, but no specific games are announced either.

Spyborgs: They had pictures and a trailer, but threw the build out, and have actually stated they aren't showing anything new until it is ready.

That says that if there is something major for the Wii coming down the road, it's not going to be announced until they have something definite to show for it.
