Still sort of surprising. For all the hype that kz2 received, I would have really expected the fanboys to make it the best selling game of the month at least.

This.

fanboys are not that many. You guys really blow them out of proportion especially when making weak arguments.

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

but halo wars wont have great legs but killzone 2 will
and btw is someone suprised by this?
double the install base + halo brand = great sales
also 360 games are usually very frontloaded

Like Halo 3 and GTA 4...

Just compare Mass effect to Uncharteds legs

or dead rising to Ratchet and clanks

or Fable 2s to LBP

Wasn't both Uncharted and LBP bundled?

Yeah both had official bundles.

Come on Pristine... I like you...
but you have to admit... Killzone2 had everything for it:

  • STELLAR reviews
  • Super-Hyped PS Community
  • TV Ads and Marketing
  • Awesome visuals
  • It's a f***in FPS, the biggest seller genre
  • Sony unveiled it MANY years ago to build the hype

Killzone 2 couldn't fail.
But again, the PS3 userbase is weird.

Let's pretend the game would have been 360 exclusive... Killzone2 first week would have done 1,6 million, easily.*

* Look at the Gears1 data from 2006: first week around 900,000. And at the time, the 360 WW install base = 5,5 million.

My Gaming Setup

ps3 Resident evil 5- 320k first week

xbox360 Resident evil 5- 79k first week

360owners reponse- "ohh no surprise at all it's japan"

so your not surprised when RE5 on ps3 outsells the 360 version by 4:1 in Japan and yet we should be shocked that a halo game sold more that KZ2 in america?

  • Since when to amazing reviews always guarantee amazing game sales? There are some great games that get completely ignored when it comes to sales.
Yeah... you're talking about Okami, Shadow OTC, Ico... = Niche genre.
But Killzone is a FPS. And in the states, FPS+REALISTIC GRAPHICS+BLOOD usually sells.

  • So what you're saying is despite the fact that it's tracking higher then Resistance 2 tracked in sales, it's still failing to live up to the expectations of Sony fans?
Resistance 2 bombed. Please find another game.

  • The name Halo is enough to guarantee that people are going to buy it. Also, Halo Wars does have advertisements. While they aren't nearly as frequent as Killzone 2, they still exist.
I never talked about Halo Wars. Strange...

  • The reason the PS3 seems to have difficulty in making 1 specific genre is because there is a lot of diversity in the PS3 audience. Not everybody that owns a PS3 loves shooters. The PS3 has people who own it that like shooters, rpg's, racers, sports, and other games as well. I personally didn't buy Killzone 2. I hope it does well because the PS3 needs a decent selling game.
Again, the PS3 isn't the PS2... the PS3 diversity is nowhere as big as the Xbox360 one.

    More RPGs? Xbox 360
    More RTS? Xbox 360
    More Sports? Xbox 360
    Biggest game collection? Xbox 360
More vintage arcade games? Xbox 360

  • Since when does having a game take forever to release guarantee that it's going to sell astronomically? There are games like Gran Turismo and Killzone that turn out well but there are a great deal of games that tend to do terrible due to being pushed back and making people wait too long for them.
    But... But... IT'S KILLZONE 2!!!!
The biggest game of the decade!!!

I actually prefer Halo Wars because i like RTS games more then FPS's but in all honesty, acting as if Killzone is doing terrible, and then attributing it to the fact that it's on the PS3 is trolling. I'm tired of hearing "They should have made it for the 360" and crap like that. It's also ridiculous because Guerilla Games is owned by Sony in the first place. e.e
I never said "They should have made it for the 360".
Make it clear.
I just pointed out the difference between the userbases buying habits.

I bought Killzone 2 on my PS3 and I'm enjoying it.
On the other hand, the Xbox360 doesn't need Killzone to succeed.

RTS have more sales compared to super most hyped FPS of this year ?, wow

I can think of several RTS released this year that should sell more than KZ2. None of them is Halo Wars though.

I don't want to insist... but:

Resistance 2 bombed.

Fall 2008:

Great hopes for R2.
The Gears of War2 direct rival.
The game (with LBP) meant to give a strong PS3 Holiday boost.

Let's look at the AAA FPS results on the PS3:

2 weeks of Killzone 2 = already 1,04 m
Call of Duty4:MW = 4,05 m
Resistance 1 = 3,55 m
Call of Duty:WOW = 2,98 m

...

Resistance 2 = 1,47 m (The sequel of a game that sold 3,55 m!)

Halo brand + double install base compared to PS3+ 5 days of sales compared to just 2 = huge sales in america.

Fixed

That's exactly what I was thinking!    Killzone 2 released late in the week.    I was wondering what this thread was about anyway...

I was surprised by this as well. Killzone 2 had all the signs of being a multimillion seller in its first month in NA alone. Chances are it won't reach 2 mill in NA.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

"why this is not a shooter?!" xD i actually heard that yesterday
