^me neither. As far as I know, not a word's been said about the American version, probable release date or anything....

I wouldn't be interested at all if the developer wasn't level 5. I love dq8. 140 quality hours spent on that game.
Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

I can do that too. We both know that JRPGs haven't been given much of a fair shake this generation. Look! This website gave Lost Odyssey a 5/10! That must mean it sucks, right? No. Not at all. |
But the reviewer for the site that reviewed the game admitted on NeoGAF that he didn't know how to play the game properly.

twesterm said: It's a PS3 exclusive, that's really about it as far as reasons for hyping it goes. People were hyping it since a 30 second E3 clip detailing nothing about the game. -edit- And before people flip out, I'm not saying the game is good or bad, you just can't deny this game was originally hyped because it was an early PS3 exclusive that looked pretty and nothing else. |
No, the first trailer just looked awesome, and after the second CGI trailer most of us where totally hyped by it, then we saw the first actual gameplay during the TGS07 and some started to have there doubts about it. Then they announced the online mode a couple of months before the release, and a lot of people started to think that this perhaps wouldn't be that epic RPG that we where expecting. The Famitsu review did also hurt the hype.

What about the 8/10 by Eurogamer (usually very harsh reviewers).
Famitsu is meaningless in america, and RPGFan is the same website that gave 5/10 for Star Ocean.
And no, Lost Odyssey isn't AAA.

What's your point? The game was a lot of fun. |
But everything else was lacking, except the visuals. The story is boring and awful; it was just a series of unrelated events. Characters.....bah! Where's the development? Music got annoying, and I hated the sound that played when you get a special item. I just couldn't find the motivation to finish the game.
@BxN, RPGamer is the one who gave Star Ocean a 2.5/5, not RPGFan. I trust RPGFan's reviews a lot, especially James who reviewed White Knight Chronicles. He's pretty much spot on for me.
It's a J-A-RPG that was made by level 5 that's being released on the PS3, and I want it.
The main reason why I want it is because I don't own a JRPG on my PS3 yet, and I feel like I'm going to go crazy and try to fight a bear/eagle with a staff because I can't wait another f-ing year for Final Fantasy to come out, so White Knight Chronicles should be able to calm me down until Final Fantasy XIII is released.

So then you agree with my point that reviews don't matter a whole lot.
@ Mirson
There was a lot I enjoyed about it. Story wasn't fantastic, but I didn't think it was terrible.
I was able to finish Rogue Galaxy but Persona 3 wasn't able to hold my interest.

You, as a person who frequents forums and loves JRPG's, may have thought the game was awesome because it's an RPG made by Factor-5 but people who frequent internet forums and people who love RPG's are not the majority.
So that explains why a (relatively) small number of people hyped the game but that doesn't explain why it's actually hyped other than it's a PS3 exclusive.
