Forums - Gaming - Student sues US Airways for $1m over lost Xbox 360

A 21-year-old man has sued US Airways for $1 million over the alleged theft of his Xbox 360. He claims that after he picked up his luggage following a flight home during the holidays, he noticed how light the bag was and discovered that his console was missing. He also claims that his system had a specialized hard drive and components worth more than $1,000 ... um, okay.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports the suit seeks $1,700 for the loss of the system, "non-economic distress" of $25,000, or just the cool million, which is the "maximum amount allowable by law." A US Airways spokesperson stated that federal loss limit per bag is $3,300. Not that any of that matters because she goes on to say that policies specifically exclude liability for electronics checked in luggage. The lesson here: Don't ever check in baggage with electronics.

Its the said thing to do, his family and friends would be digusted with him if he didn't try and sue, everyone and their mothers will sue given the chance ... in America ... oh is that another false stereotype?

I just don't like the fact that you can sue for anything regardless of the effect (or cause for that matter)

Seems fine if it's electronics.

Make jokes of him as much as youd like, but it sucks losing a console.

That's what bothers me about the statement the airline official said.  Pretty much they are saying "While we're checking your suitcase for bombs and other illegal weapons, we are also going to help ourselves to your Xbox 360 for the inconvenience."  Um, what?  I mean, the 360 isn't exactly small enough to fit into a carry-on if you have it in the box, etc, so if he got it for the Holidays while on vacation, what is his other option?  Ship it UPS I guess.  One time I found a dirty sock in my suitcase.  I picked it up and asked my wife why she threw her dirty sock in my suit case.  Then I held it up to my nose as a joke and said "Damn honey, this thing stinks".  She then broke the news to me that it wasn't hers.  I then took a shower, and almost threw up...

Yea, I learned the lesson the hard way myself. I had a hard cased suitcase (old school Samsonite) and it was thrown around so much that one end actually busted out. They repaired the suitcase but told me my GCN didn't matter since it was electronics. I padded it down with lots of clothes and everything and it made the trip to Tenn. fine but not the trip back (when all the damage was done to the suitcase). The GCN would turn on but couldn't read disc. I just sucked it up and bought another GCN because I didn't feel like sending it in and GCN weren't too expensive at that time. Later on, I was just messing around with the old GCN when I was bored one day and I kept touching the lens reader plastic thing moved it up and down. Well it must have been stuck or something because after I messed around with it, it started reading disc again. So I sold it to one of my friends for dirt cheap. I should have probably kept both because I have the purple one now and the other was black. The black would have gone better with my GBA player for the GCN.
