Forums - General - Gun rampage at German school - more than 15 people shot

BERLIN, Germany (CNN) -- A gunman dressed in military gear killed 15 people Wednesday in a shooting spree in two small towns near Stuttgart, police spokeswoman Renate Roesch told CNN, before he was shot dead by police.

Police launched a manhunt for the 17-year-old gunman who was said to be heavily armed.

The gunman, 17, began his rampage by fatally shooting three teachers and nine students at the Albertville-Realschule school in Winnenden, where he used to be a student, she said.

The shooting, which began around 9:30 a.m., lasted about two minutes, police said.

On his way out of the school, the gunman killed a person who was working in a hospital nearby, then hijacked a car and drove to the nearby town of Wendlingen, where he released the driver of the car but killed two more people before being killed himself in a shootout with police, authorities said. I opened this thread because I don't want people to discuss a possible ban of violent games in germany at this point. The story itself is much more important (and schocking) than possible consequences on videogame releases. Discussions (especially amongst our german users) can be started at a later point, too.

There are also pictures of the school on Spiegel.de check the link to view them.

I just hope that our politicians won't just blame video games for this action. Violent media is just one of the activator, but the main reasons have to do something with his social life or his social problems.

Apparently for his parents shooting was a sport. Unlike the guy from Erfurt he did have a graduation btw.

Regardless of who society or the media blames, this was a sad and pointless loss of life. It's tragic.

Yea, i know, i watched the news 5 minutes ago, and yes the school blamed computer games

I can't understand why someone would do such a stupid thing. 15 casualties is just crazy.
Another poor day for humanity.

Damn... I just saw it flash by but school intervened. Those 15 shot... are they all dead or is it a mixture of injured and killed??

As for videogames, I doubt they will be blamed in the end as Germany is much tighter on videogame censorship then the rest of Europe and in my recent memory only one other schoolshooting occured - Sweden.
And that was due the psyche of the person shooting...

This is incredibly sad indeed

They've all been killed, two policemen have been injured.

its all over the news right now .. although the reaction so far is less idiotic and beside the point than the last time .. there are the usualy "blame the "killergames"" statements.. and some bullshit about metal detectors or keycard doorlocks ..

but also something quite interesting about how schools need social workers and psychologists to whom students who are having problems of any kind can turn to .so such a thing wont happen again.. i think that makes more sense than metal detectors and key cards, that idea is soooo german

its like "ok if they cant bring a gun to school anymore they wont be shooting anyone anymore......right?"

at least the gunman got what he deserved,i hate it when the gunmen commit suicide. but i do feel sad about all the people who got killed
