1.26 million in sales for RE:UC. Can't say I'm surprised with a sequel announcement.

It's just that simple.

@ Noname - you think Capcom is going to follow up the release of RE 5 with a Chronicles that ignores the last two games in the series? They don't have to sum up the whole game, just certain stories. Half the story in the Chronicles game can be stuff that you never saw in the original. They've got a lot of freedom with what they do, and I expect them to give this game a lot of effort and polish.

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

fuck yes.

Yeah, I do actually. Why not? There was no logical reason to skip RE2/CV in the original, but they did it anyway. Besides, what does RE4 have to do with Umbrella, really? A connection is hinted at, but I don't think it will be revealed in a (likely non-cannon) spinoff game.

And I'm skeptical that this will be anything more than a modest-budget B-team game. That's what the original was, after all: outsourced to Cavia, originally an RE4-style game that got turned into a light-gun game halfway through, no visible indication that your enemies have been hurt, highly recycled assets from previous games...

Don't mistake me, I bought UC, and I really, really liked it. But I don't mistake it for a Grade-A product, and I doubt that this will be that much more polished. I'm still getting this one, mind you, but it will be a bit bumming that this isn't the game it could have been.

Since the first Chonicles came out, it was pretty apparent that we'd be getting another game. I mean they left out two, Veronica, four and five.

Remember that Veronica Remake talk? well Veronica story will be in this one. And so will four and five. That's right, I'm saying it here and I'm saying it without proof, but the Darkside Chronicles team worked along side the RE5 creative team to put RE5 storyline in the game. Infact, I'm guessing one level will have the driving/shooting part in RE5. And there'll be RE 2 in it just because it gives us straight up killing zombies in the city gameplay. Which is what made the RE 3 parts the best levels in Umbrella Chronicles (the subway station kicked ass).

And for people saying this has anything to do with being cheap or lazy... Did you guys play Umbrella Chronicles? An 8 or 9 hour railshooter with plenty of CGI, voice acting, branching paths, high replay value and a crap load of collectibles and story files probably took more effort and money than a lot of other high quality Wii games have gotten.

This really seems like a good thing to me. It also means that Capcom is increasing it's Wii RE support, which probably means more games in the future.

The game was outsourced to Cavia or Tose, the other was responsible for the Dead Rising Wii port. In other words Capcom was lazy. They are putting all their resources into the games for the HD systems and now they are trying to keep their balance sheets from bleeding red by making cheap Zombie games for Wii gamers. Wii gamers love Zombie games, the sales of RE4 and RE:UC proves this, in the eyes of Capcom's CEO.

Making a spinoff, ala Code: Veronica, would require resources like money, time, and effort all of which Capcom is not doing with Wii games except Monster Hunter 3.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

I think there's a very logical reason to skip RE2 and Code Veronica. It's for a sequel. And RE4 doesn't have to have anything to do with Umbrella. This isn't Umbrella Chronicles, it's "Darkside Chronicles", which if anything would suggest it will have more of 4 and 5 in it.

Anyways, this thread is looking a lot like the Excitebots or DeadSpace: Extraction threads. And much like those two, people are over reacting and will feel a lot different when the game actually comes out. Umbrella Chronicles was a terrific and well made game. Complaining about a sequel is kind of goofy.

I'm excited. A release day buy for me. Loved the first one, and now we get some more detail added to the RE story. I love that Chronicles adds some extra depth. I mean, some core story would be nice, but I'm not gonna complain.

On rails? :( what a friggin let down. guess my $$$ is staying in my wallet.

That's...not a very satisfying reason. "We held back on the original, so we'd have material for the sequel"? It sounds a lot like "planned obsolescence."

I'll concede that the title leaves open the possibility that this isn't about Umbrella, but I'd be (a bit) surprised if it wasn't. Guess we'll find out in under 48 hours, eh?

As to the Dead Space comment, I'm mostly inclined to agree, and I find it amusing that we're acting like we're on opposite ends in this discussion when we're both looking forward to it. That said, I feel compelled to point out the other side's version of this story, because I DO find it understandable. As usual, famousringo was more eloquent in expressing it than I was, so I'll use his words here (from the Dead Space thread):

I think people are just sick of getting the bait & switch with every franchise that comes to Wii. It's a parade of genre-busting spinoffs with little in common with the parent franchise besides the IP, and low budgets in common with each other.

Hey, you're getting Dead Space, a third person horror/shooter. Just kidding, it's a rail shooter.

Hey, you're getting a new Resident Evil. A third person survival/horror game? Nope, yours is a rail shooter.

Hey, you're getting a new Soul Calibur fighter! And by fighter, we mean a cheapass hack & slash.

How about a new Castlevania game? Platforming and powerups? No, yours will be a 3D fighting game!

In short, this game is the latest in a series of bait-n-switch that third parties have been pulling on Wii owners, and I can see why it would get tiresome. Personally, I like light-gun shooters, so those don't bug me. I also liked Dead Rising: Chop 'Til You Drop. But I was miffed that the Castlevania platformer and the Soul Calibur fighter went elsewhere, and if I didn't like the spinoffs that I did I'd probably be solidly in the other side's camp.

You and I may disagree with the sentiment, but it's hard to say it's not understandable.

P.S. Who the hell is complaining about Excitebots?!?!

well i did buy Umbrella Chronicles, and i thought the game sucked, sold it for $20, but i believe its a good rent. If this game happens to be another on rails RE game, i'll be on the fence, and i'll rent it to avoid makin the same mistake.
