Lets make guesses for the software sales. I think that 360 and wii will be with technical draw and ps3 will have a good third place.

As Scottie has already said, Wii software is already much higher than X360 software.

In terms of where it is likely to end, the X360 should end up with around 650-750 million software units, which will be impressive for a console with it's userbase.... I would say between 55 and 65 million consoles will be the X360 userbase, meaning an attach ratio of around 11-12.

The Wii will easily surpass that, in fact it probably won't be far under 650 million by this time next year.... and in total will exceed 1.5 billion software units quite easily, perhaps with a bit of luck reaching 2 billion.

Like i said, the 3 consoles will be in very good position in the end of generation. And Sony and Microsoft going to motion capture next-gen will make it even more fair and competitive. What Nintendo just need to do now is get the "hardcore"audience.

Total - Around 250m

Playstation 3 - 30m
Xbox 360 - 35m

Joke post?

I sure hope so.

I hope it is too. There is no way the Xbox 360 will sell only 6 million by the time this gen ends in 3+ years, same with the PS3 only selling 9 million. I'm not even going to touch your guess on the Wii.

I would say 200 million is actually possible for the Wii, but it is at the higher end of any reasonable estimate.

but the X360 and PS3 figures are impossibly low (barring an immediate shutdown of either/both companys, which won't logically happen)

By now, the minimum anyone should be predicting for the two are 40 million for the PS3, and 50 million for the X360.

I guess it could be possible, however personally I think it will be between 150 - 160 million when all is set and done. I think the Xbox 360 will be sell 60 - 70 million by the time it is done selling and the PS3 45 - 55 million. With lifetime total sales of 255 - 285 million.

Yes those are good ranges in my view, though perhaps the X360 is a little high... but then I have been pessimistic for it before so I should perhaps increase my expectations to counter my bias against it.

What I was saying though is that 200m is not out of the realm of reasonable possibilty for the Wii.

If the current economic situation continues for the years to come, we may not beat 170 million. If the world is plunged into a depression than the entertainment industry is in serious danger. We're seeing the signs around us already.

However, if the economic situation lightens up and becomes history perhaps in the next few years, 200 million isn't a far stretch of the imagination and a very safe bet. But considering the influx of new console owners thanks to the sales of the wii. 240+ million is well within the industry's grasp.

Why must JRPG female leads suck so bad?

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

My estimates on the Xbox 360 have always been on the high side, because it is my console of choice, it has the most games that I play.

O ok, yeah I know it is not impossible, I just feel its highly unlikey.

Clearly it is the opposite for me, I don't see the appeal of the Xbox and I live in the UK, which is it's second greatest country in terms of popularity.

Back in late 2007 I was expecting it to succumb to the Playstation brand name later last year, and for the PS3 to be passing it in total sales late 2009... but now it is pretty much impossible for the PS3 to pass 360 until late 2011 or after... and that's only if it starts going well for PS3 some time soon (like this Christmas period)

In fact, a prediction I made in January 2008 (predicting the life totals at the end of 2008) pegged the Wii at 45 million (pretty much spot on) the PS3 at 19 million (again spot on, although my revisions to the prediction increased to 21 million later in the year, then it all went wrong for PS3) and the X360 originally at just 23 million, which it surpassed by 4 million.

You can check my profile to see what are essentially the same type of prediction but 1 year later (so for life-till the end of 2009) I tried to be a bit more bullish with the X360, but I think it could surpass my figures again.

about 250mln with wii gathering about 60-65% of the market.

If you don't count the Dreamcast, last generation will end with over 180 million.

This gen is moving way faster than last, and is supposedly set to last longer (though we will see if that pans out)

The Wii is ahead of the PS2 on a from launch basis (by region, not WW as that messes things up) the PS3 and X360 are both ahead of GC and Xbox.

200 million consoles is a given, it's only 3 years in and we are at 100 million.... it could be close to 200 million even before the next gen starts. (ie in another 2-3 years)
