Forgot about Californication - Red Hot Chili Peppers (2001)

Wrong decade dude.  That's 1999.  By The Way came out in 2001.

@ SciFiBoy: Maybe you would like recent music more if you would stop listening to bands that have been washed up for quite awhile now.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

imo, music was MUCH better before this decade, only music i buy these days is what few good bands from the past are still going, so my top 5 are all by bands that started before 1998

1. Don't Believe The Truth - Oasis (2005)
2. Heathen Chemistry - Oasis (2002)
3. Standing on the shoulder of Giants - Oasis (2000)
4. How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb - U2 (2004)
5. Dig Out Your Soul - Oasis (2008) - i know its only been out for 6 months or so, but ive listened to it more than any of the others in the list above in that time and i love it, will probably be no.1 by 2010

awesome list, anyway, you should check new music(post 1998), there sure is a lot of crap, but there are great bands too. If you like Oasis maybe you should check Jet, they have similar sound.
