Forums - Sales - Are people overreacting to the Wii's sales in Japan?

There're a lot of threads floating around at the moment asking question like

Time to lower the price of the Wii in Japan?

http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=63156&page=2

Yakuza 3/Killzone 2 the beginning of Sony's global reign.

http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=62985

Well I am starting this thread too talk about why I believe the Wii will do very well in Japan in upcoming months.

Obviously, the sales for the week ending the 8th will be very PS360 heavy due to RE:5, I'm refering to weeks after this.

Looking through the Japanese releases, and only considering games that will appeal to the Japanese, ignoring games that wont have much impact and ignoring the portables

March 9th - End of March

Wii - Wiimake of Pikmin 2

Wii - Sonic and the Black Knight

Wii - Phantom Brave (RPG, port of a PS2 game)

Ps3's biggest game is probably Musou Orochi Z, which I imagine will sell very few units

360's only release is Quantum of Solace

April

Heavy competition with the PC game Brett :P

PS3 has Killzone - but I doubt that will sell much in Japan

Wii has Monster Hunter port

Wii has Muramasa

May

Wii has Kizuna

Wii has PES soccer (winning eleven) which is huge, but it's a late port

360 has Mass Effect and a baseball game

PS3 has no release scheduled

June

Only scheduled release is Arc Rise Fantasia for the Wii

July

Metal gear Online for the PS3

No Wii or 360 releases yet

Rest of Year

No releases announced (with a specific date)

And then Nintendo is also releasing Sin and Punishment, Punch Out, Endless Ocean 2, Wii Sports Resort, Metroid Prime 2 Wiimake and a few others.

If anyone still believes that the Wii will have a bad year in 2009, give some reasoning for it

The Wii was never as popular in JP as it was else where.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

Yeah, I was thinking the same about. Probably it' time to stop worrying and enjoy the numbers

Worrying??? about what, it would take a lot for the PS3 to outsell Wii totals in Japan, and even if it pulls it off, why worry about that?... My worry is the games, and as long as the Wii and the PS3 pull good numbers, they will get the majority of the J-games (i'm not saying all of them because MS will do their moves)...

PS3 has the FF movie bundle with FFXIII demo, lets not forget. That's in April I believe.

The only games in that list that will affect hardware are Wii Sports, the two Monster Hunters and FFXIII (towards the end of the year I guess). GT5 might make it, too.

The PS3 and Wii will be much closer this year, but I think the Wii will keep a comfortable lead.

So basically, Wii has shit releases, but 360/PS3 have even shittier ones? That's still not too great of a situation.

new colors and a wii sports resort bundle should do it for a while

Unlike the rest of the world, Japan sales are driven mostly by games which has been so few so far this year on the wii. As wiifit, wii play and mario kart and wii sports are just enough to push sales in NA and others, its not having such effect in japan.

like you said, once the games come, the wii will sell.

@ AJ_habfan Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot that things like Kizuna and Muramasa are shit. I thought they were incredibly awesome. Actually, I just checked your game collection and I can safely say that you and the average Japanese gamer have extremely different tastes

@ Okey - can you point out an instance where a movie release gave a hardware boost to a console? or where a demo did? I think people are overestimating that bundle. And I think you are underestimating the impact of the sheer number of great JRPGs the Wii has coming this year, namely the ones I mentioned and the ones Soriku mentioned.

@ point x - my point is that there is no reason to be scared of the PS3 (partially because scared is the wrong word for this situation, I had a Gamecube last gen and would not describe losing in sales or lacking 3rd party exclusives as scary :P) but also because the Wii is very much going to outsell the PS3 this year
