Forums - Nintendo - Why did Sega support Nintendo?

This is all I have to say on this subject:

Microsoft moneyhats. Nintendo Mariohats.

They are smart, good answer. Mario and Sonic Olympics, another reason.

Lack of core titles on Wii, another one. Both are family entertainment companies with years of experience making games fun like toys are.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Well ,we maybe found Sega Nintendo merger in this gen. XD

/run to the bunker. :3

It's Sony that Sega doesn't like.

Did you play SeaMan?

When you talked to little Seaman via the microphone,

That fish said, regarding Sony, "let us never talk of them again", and of Nintendo said, "yeah, I've heard of them".

*SeaMan's statements don't necessarily reflect the views of Sega Inc.*

They did well on Gamecube.

When Sega went third party they spread out their support evenly across all platforms. They chose the franchises and games they thought made sense for each platform(they had a lot of talent at that time), and ended up finding their highest success on Nintendo platforms by far. Not only that, their biggest hurdles and financial bombs came from their endeavors on Microsoft and Sony systems.

I used to be a huge fan of Sega's until circa 2003(i.e. my Azel name). I was like a Sega encyclopedia up until that point, when much of their talent hadn't dissolved yet.

Money.

Thing is Sega has answered this question themselves - they totally get the Wii demographic as they spent years targeting the same audience with their consoles.

With this gens HD consoles - that audience just isn't Sega and personally I feel that the quality that the games they are linked with have never had so much quality.

HOTD overkill is one of the most enjoyable, replayable ganes i've played in a long time, i've already pre-ordered Madworld and the conduit will be a first day purchase.

Good on them as they are single handedly raising the bar for Wii third party games standards as far as i'm concerned.

Sega and Nintendo go way back (a genuinely healthy rivalry between two gaming legends, as opposed to corporations)

I'd be fine with Sega only supporting Nintendo.

All it would mean for me is that i would buy another Wii sooner than i anticipated (a relative has my 1st wii )
