Why did Sega support Nintendo?

Sega and Nintendo go way back (a genuinely healthy rivalry between two gaming legends, as opposed to corporations)

I'd be fine with Sega only supporting Nintendo.

All it would mean for me is that i would buy another Wii sooner than i anticipated (a relative has my 1st wii )
