Forums - Nintendo - Can you play Wii games with Classic Controller?

This is a serious question. I am a lazy gamer who likes laying down on my couch or bed and playing games when I want to unwind. Being active while I'm gaming doesn't appeal to me, I see gaming as a relaxing hobby. I'm 130 lb so I'm not overweight but I still like Nintendo games and have my GC, SNES, NES, GBA and love them.

Only things holding me back from buying a Wii was thinking I had to wave my arms around to play Wii games or aim to shoot shit with my whole arm, and Zelda TP being on GC.

unless your playing a waggle intense game (wario ware) u can easily lie down and be lazy (I know I am) when playing most Wii games, like Zelda.

But to be honest, TP is better on Gamecube

Most "extreme" motions in games can be spoofed with the flick of a wrist. I do it all the time in Wii Sports and it pisses people off. They tell me to "play properly" :D

WHERE IS MY KORORINPA 3

Once you get the knack of leaning your wrist on your knee, aiming is no more laborious with the wiimote than it is with a mouse. You want to rest your wrist anyway, because it stabilizes your aim.

Some games support the classic controller, but most do not. If being lazy is all that it's about (and I can appreciate that, sometimes certain games go unplayed because I don't have the energy to play them), then you just have to be careful and avoid the more action-intense games. Big games like Brawl, Mario Kart, and Super Mario Galaxy should all be okay, while games like Godfather, Boom Blox, and anything using the balance board are going to be more vigorous than you're interested in being.

Oh, and the split-controller design of wiimote + nunchuk is the most comfortable controller design ever for when you're feeling lazy.

Just don't buy any FPS if you don't like moving too much around because after 2-3 hours my wrist starts to hurt. Perhaps I need to work on my Wiimote holding technique but I do pretty good at WaW online so I am not going to probably change any motions up.

Oh and Smash, and a few other games use classic controller I think.  Smash is def. best with GCN controller though.  Mario Kart Wii can uses GCN controllers also I think except I prefer the Wiimote+nunchuck combo.

So you can play some Wii games with GCN controller? Is there a list somewhere?

I think holding the remote and nunchuck in separate hands so I can lounge about in a plethora of chillaxxable poses is more comfortable than any 2-handed controller the world has ever known. You never have to swing your whole arm in any game. As others have said, the tiniest flick of a wrist will do the job. The accelerometer is paying attention to acceleration, which means it's paying attention to the direction that gravity is pulling on your remote, which means it just pays attention to rotation. This means that rotating 30 degrees is the same whether you do it from your wrist, your elbow, or your shoulder.

That said, the classic controllers do work on some games. I don't have a list on hand, but you can use them in Brawl and Mario Kart, and any game on the VC.

Most of Nintendo and Sega tittles are compatible with classic controller.
there are too:
Guilty gear accent core
Tatsunoko Vs Capcom (import)
Mortal kombat armaggedon
and some EA games.

To answer your question-- some games can be. Every Wii game has a picture of what and how many controllers can be used for that game in the upper right hand corner on the back of the box.

It's not like you have to stick your arm straight out to play a FPS on the Wii. Metroid has some of the best first person controls in existence and that game definetly doesn't require you to hop all over the place.

Games like Wii Sports, Wario Ware and similar games encourage you to get off your lazy ass and play. For those of us that aren't embarassed to hop around like idiots it's great. I still play Wii sports once in awhile when people come over, it's alot of fun.
