From a profit stand point Sony would make more profits by being a software only company. Losses on hardware has eaten into Sony's profits and actually resulted in losses in some years.

However I do not believe Sony will leave the hardware side of the video game business unless they are forced out due to unforeseeable events that may unfold.

That is very small amount of profit considering its dominance for 10 years selling consoles. The Nintendo consoles have made around 6 to 7 billion in profits in the same time period. Microsoft consoles a loss of $4 billion in the same time period on hardware.

They were hovering around 5-6 million before the PS3, so that has cut into their profits. But still they are doing much better in gaming then microsoft. If anyone leaves it will be them. Aren't they selling gaming stuff?

I expect next gen it will be Sony/Apple/Nintendo.

Then gen after that maybe sony/nintendo/(some unknown company again trying to break out into gaming?)

SEGA!! or Apple

They shouldn't, all they need is a good PS4 and they will be back on top, but if they did they would knock out EA/Activision/Ubisoft as the biggest publishers.

Games like Ratchet & Clank, Killzone, God of War, Gran Turismo on multiple consoles would sell amazingly.

Those games just like GTA IV  and soon RE5 and FFXIII will sell better on XBox 360 than PS3.  If only they were multi-platform the sales would be enormous and huge profits for developers securing their futures in game business.

Never, only MS should. Thier hardware is terrible, and thats including past gens.

And no, RE5 and FFXIII wont sell better on the 360 than the PS3. Just like R&C, GoW and GT wouldnt either.

I will take that bet I beg to differ. RE5 and FFXIII on X360 will outsell the same games on PS3 in ltd sales.

Say hello to GTA IV
