star ocean 4 wasn't a great succes in Japan for either the 360 or square. it did put the 360 ahead of its closest competitor there by 5 thousand units and it did sell 179,000 copies its first week. however the very next week, the 360 finished third again and star ocean 4 only managed to sell 20,000 units so star ocean 4 is nowhere at all on pace with the ps3's biggest rpg of the year in that territory white knight chronicles. now let's look at yakuza 3's first week on ps3. it put the ps3 ahead of both of its competiors combined and made it sell 10 thousand more units than the 360 was able to do the preveious week with an exclusive rpg from square. it also sold much better than the wii has been able to do the last several weeks and even put the ps3 very close to the numbers that the handhelds achieved there last week. i wonder how it feels to be square. knowing that SO4 is going to be limping along towards 250k and that the game will be very lucky to ever reac 300k when it would have been 2x on ps3.

Star Ocean 4 would've been a success in Japan if it was exclusive to the PS3. Mark my words 500 k copies sold first day. This is truth.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not.

I forgot to add, IF (and only if) Sony had launched at the proper price and had been the JRPG flagship like they were last gen. This isn't sarcasm....this is realism. I'm not afraid to admit to things such as this.

what kind of article was that? Is this suppose to be written by a professional journalist? He is merely putting out his subjective opinions as facts that are backed by barely a weeks worth of sales data!!

it looks like two weeks of sales data going with the Japanese preview data and the possibility that the PS3 passed 50,000 this week. if they can get a few more weeks of good sales, Sony might be able to do a pricecut that doesn't look like a desperation move.

Heavens to Murgatoids.

I can't wait to see how the WW sales of PS3 in the next couple months against the weak Spring software lineup for Wii and 360.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Definitely not a global reign. Not even close.

However,I think Japan could go in favor of the ps3 for a good while after seeing this weeks number in the Japan preview.

well the 360 cost almost the same as the DS in japan and it's not selling.

and no this isn't sarcarms it's realism.

the generation it's far from over, but if star ocean was launched ps3 exclusive it would have sold more what it did on the 360 in japan.

and dont say in the us will sell more than japan because it sold about 59,000 and will go down from there.

People declared PS3 is dead after two months of slower sales no suprise that same kind of people now declare PS3 is reborn.

A week or two is not a trend imo. Yakuza 3 is like a Halo level game for Japan. Killzone 2 is like Gears of War level game for the US/Europe. Everyone knew that sales would go up. The question is has the bar been raised or are these just spikes?

If the PS3 is still #1 in Japan (or at least is still selling within 80% of its current spike) by the second week of April, i'll say it looks like a trend. Looking at the latest VGchartz numbers for US/Europe, KZ2 seems too have put the PS3 barely above the 360 in Others and still trailing in the US. I'll wait for next week for to see how the numbers pan out, but if its still similar, I don't think Killzone 2 marks the sign of anything that MGS4 didn't already prove: a PS3 game can crack the Top 5 if its a super megaton level game.

Just a reference point, if the numbers for consoles in Japan stay the same, it would take until 2012 for the PS3 to tie the Wii in Japan. Of course, Im not sure the PS3 can sustain its numbers once FF13 has been released. I don't see any huge franchises coming out down the road to push PS3 HW sales.
