Forums - Sales - The real console war of 2009 does not include the Wii

Maybe change the title and he wouldn't have the Wii fan Backlash. Rather than marginalize the Wii, acknowledge the Wii. And not in the backhanded compliment way that he did in the OP.

If I were to do a post such as this I'd title it "The race for 2nd"

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

^^Agree with that. This topic is so ooold. Germany would have won the war if the US didn't exist.

but Germany did win.. after all, the US isn't in europe... so.. you know.. it DID win

If my time weren't so precious I might tackle some of your key points but as I said my time is valuable and precious. Although a pretty good synopsis of 2009, I think you give too much faith in Wii and not enough in the other platforms. If there is any year for them to catch up this would definitely be a good starting point. Many could try to argue that 2008 might have been a peak year for the Wii and validity on that could be argued very strongly.

But HD console war is simply a joke. Actually the handheld being different from home console is a joke as well but I guess not as many are laughing. So of course assuming that the 3 don't compete on the same level is quite the joke and your reasons supporting this are none the less disturbingly primitive. You actually could have made a case on this with support from actual sales because despite Wii being so dominant it isn't doing what the PS2 was doing which was canceling out sales of the other platforms. Thus you could argue Wii has created another separate niche "marke" where it has complete dominance along with a good portion of control in the other traditional "markets" but shared more heavily with the competing platforms. But instead you took a very simplistic route.

However it's kinda ironic that this thread is supposed to be about the HD console war but of course the topic and intro is all about the Wii. Guess it's a little more important than what meets the eye. Damnit I gave away too much of my precious time. Oh well I hope this helps.

The Wii has been slipping pretty quickly this year, with the only assistance in sight being Arc Rise Fantasia/Monster Hunter G (March & April in Japan), Wiimakes here in NA (nothing new comes till May),and Europe gets games, however they are late compared to NA.

 1. The PS3 needs a price drop but they need to hold off as long as they can obviously they’ve lost quite a bit of money in the past few years. We have seen Killzone 2 push PS3 ahead of the 360 but not by much. Only one exclusive can really make the PS3 REALLY outsell the 360. That is Final Fantasy 13 in Japan that could happen this summer. I do not expect God of War 3, GT or an English version of FF13 this year. Signs point to a PS3 price drop in or around summer.

2. A $300 dollar PS3 can and will outsell a $200 360 if for no other reason that bluray is gaining popularity. Its games lineup is strong too. How many people do you know making the jump at this time? The question is will 360 drop to $150? Anything is possible. But remember though Microsoft has plenty of cash they are not invincible. Their stocks are the lowest they've been in a decade, they just laid off 5,000 people, vista has not been the success everyone assumed it would be, they lost billions on the original X-Box, they spend a huge amount on advertising and exclusives, and of course billions on the dreaded RROD. Is the 360 so cheap to produce that they can afford to cut it to that price at this time?

So who will win the HD console war 2009? It entirely depends on when Sony cuts the price of the PS3 and if/when Microsoft responds.

You need to get past this ridiculous idea that the PS3 line-up in any way beats the Xbox 360's.

They are pretty much dead even if the PS3 get's God of War 3 this year.  A marginal victory if the PS3 gets GT5 this year, and a substantial PS3 loss if it gets neither.

The Xbox 360 has a HUGE line-up this year, just as the PS3 does.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

@ Starcraft I'm gonna have to see a Screenshot of Mass Effect 2 or actual ingame footage of Alan Wake before I could even consider 360's lineup competitive. As of now God of War 3 looks further along in development and I don't even think that game will come out in 2009.

Don't front you're just as interested in a$300 PS3 as I am in a $150 360.

Again for those trolling: I own a Wii and I probably enjoy my Wii more then all you fanboys who are exclusive to it as if you were married to it. Why? Because I can enjoy the Gems from both systems. I don't need to wish Zelda was on PS3 and I don't need to pray Killzone 2 comes to Wii. I get the best of both world. It really is an amazing feeling of freedom.

I'm happy nintendo fans are now wii fans... This thread really is the worst kind of a wretched vile reiko.

@op There are more important things than who comes first, at work I have an old quote saved which points out that because PS360 get out sold on NPD 2 to 1 by Wii, that Nintendo must make a WiiHD and discontinue SD Wii's, the assertion provided here is an insult same as my tangent.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.
