Forums - Sales - The real console war of 2009 does not include the Wii

Predicting the sales of these consoles are simple.

Wii will remain on top and it's not because it has the best games. If you're having problems grasping the fact that Wii appeals to a different demographic then PS360 I invite you to take a look at Call of Duty World at war. Even though there are more than twice as many Wii's out there the PS3 version alone has sold 3X as many copies. Or look at No more Heroes which according to the dude at my local GameStop isn't even in print anymore.

PS3 and the Wii both play games. After that they are as different as well...Black and white

Because it appeals to a broader demographic then PS360, it sells more this concept is soooo simple to grasp yet some seem to have trouble. Nintendo made the right moves it will remain in first place no need to gloat. (Wondering if I own a Wii? The answer is yes).

X-Box 360 owners and PS3 owners alike concede that the Wii will continue to sell. The interesting "console war" is of course the HD Console War, between 360 and PS3.

So looking at 2008 PS3 outsold the X-Box 360 pretty much every week (bluray wins format war, MGS4). Then the 360 dropped its price to $200. Now many consumers of course can see the "value" in a PS3 purchase. But to many others they see a $200 price tag and they see a $400 price tag and it's a no brainer. The PS3 cannot outsell the 360 at double the price point. Notice also that the 360 price drop did not affect Wii sales at all.

So now, assuming Wii will again be on top this year here's what to watch for in the HD console war 2009:

1. The PS3 needs a price drop but they need to hold off as long as they can obviously they’ve lost quite a bit of money in the past few years. We have seen Killzone 2 push PS3 ahead of the 360 but not by much. Only one exclusive can really make the PS3 REALLY outsell the 360. That is Final Fantasy 13 in Japan that could happen this summer. I do not expect God of War 3, GT or an English version of FF13 this year. Signs point to a PS3 price drop in or around summer.

2. A $300 dollar PS3 can and will outsell a $200 360 if for no other reason that bluray is gaining popularity. Its games lineup is strong too. How many people do you know making the jump at this time? The question is will 360 drop to $150? Anything is possible. But remember though Microsoft has plenty of cash they are not invincible. Their stocks are the lowest they've been in a decade, they just laid off 5,000 people, vista has not been the success everyone assumed it would be, they lost billions on the original X-Box, they spend a huge amount on advertising and exclusives, and of course billions on the dreaded RROD. Is the 360 so cheap to produce that they can afford to cut it to that price at this time?

So who will win the HD console war 2009? It entirely depends on when Sony cuts the price of the PS3 and if/when Microsoft responds.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Tag, courtesy of fkusumot: "Why do most of the PS3 fanboys have avatars that looks totally pissed?"
"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

It's just that everyone knows Wii will win so they pretend it's not part of it.

Ok Wii is a part of it Wii will win. Now what are your thoughts on like the 200 other points I made?
