Forums - Microsoft - Are Out of Warranty Owners Second Class Customers?

I ask the question because I have had two totally different experiences.

When I was under warranty my console was collected and returned within 9 days.

Out of warranty 4 weeks and I now have to get it repaired privately.

So are MS purposley fuc***ing folks around so they buy another console?

Your thoughts and experiences would be appreciated.

That's pretty much the way it works for every product.
If you car breaks and it's not under warranty. It's your problem...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Best thing is just to not deal with MS customer service. Had to deal with them once with my Xbox and swore never again to talk to them. Ugh one of the worst I must say. Just get replacement plans with your retailers.

I wouldn't think so, surely not if they are still taking a loss on their hardware, at least.

Their support just seems to be very inconsistent.

You have just expressed my thoughts Zucas.

I am heading to Dublin tomorrow to get it sorted.

I could not face that phone again listening to robots.

Yeah i know what you mean but i finally gave up working with M$ for my now almost 4 year old launch console and learned to fix it myself. However all my other xboxes have been speedily reapired by M$. I think its just inconsistant tech support. As far as purposoly screwing peoiple over i highly doubt it they wouldnt have extended the warranty at a cost of 1 billion dollars if they were only into making people buy a second console

Long Live SHIO!

I don't think you understand what a warranty is...

I've always had a good experience with ms customer service but let's face it you get the wrong person on the other end and you are screwed.

Does it matter that you are not under warranty? I would think from ms perspective the paying repair is a greater priority than the warranty repair. At least they make a little money on your repair.

I could just say what but I reckon you are being sarcarstic so I will answer you.

A warranty is a contract for a specified period and after that you are responsible.

A producer-warranty is simply the cheapest warranty they could get away with.

Firms should be forced to have a 5-year minimum warranty, and warranty should be renewed fully every time you get a replacement. That'll improve customer experience and force manufacturers to put out half-decent hardware.
