you shouldn't be getting that ad more than like 1 time per "session". Do you have something like "no third party cookies" or anything like that. I just opened 20 tabs and I only saw that ad when I first turned on my browser.

Not pop up, pop ins. Ads that take you off the page your viewing to display an entirely new page with just the ad on it that says, click this link to skip the ad.

I'm using Firefox as well right now.

maybe you pissed someone off, because i've never seen anything like that on this site

agreed - i dont recall ever seeing a pop in add on VC, only the side ads which dont do anything. even still - pop ins are stopped by disabling javascript on specific sites - the add on i use (for firefox) for that is called YesScript. only takes a click to disable it for sites.

I'm using Firefox as well right now.

I'm using Chrome and I've only seen it happen twice.

And I, uh, post a bit.

I think part of my problem is that I use Linux and firefox under Ubuntu 8.10 & Fedora 10 doesn't seem to like the adds on this website. I would browse with Windows, but this one time I got a Winantivirus pop-up when browsing this site and I started getting paranoid.

Is there a way to have flash object ask before they execute in firefox?

I ended up using Flashblock to prevent flash objects from running without my approval. I then could use ad-block+ to block the frame. My PCs performance while visiting this site has seen a drastic improvement since.

I am sure the admins are not happy with us discussing ways to block their ads on their forums. However, if the ads did not have such an affect on performance, I would not waste time with blocking them. I don't think it is too much to ask that I am able to play Pandora and then visit this site without it locking up all flash objects.

My problem may be that I am using Linux and Flash has never really worked well on the platform. It is not Ubuntu's or Fedora's fault, it is Adobe's. Perhaps in the future, flash will be coded to run better on Linux. (I will re-emphasize that no other site has given me problems, not even IGN)

Ads help pay for this site to run, they're a necessary evil.
