Forums - Gaming - Why An FF7 Remake Wouldn't Be A PS3 Exclusive (Flame Shields At the ready)!

So Square Enix decides to bring FF XIII to the 360 as well
Decides to bring its biggest Japanese franchise to Wii.
Brings Star Ocean 4 to 360.
And won't have any game for the PS3 even after 3 years.

Yet people think that FF7, their biggest franchise by far, actually has the slightest chance of being exclusively on PS3...

Next gen DS2 or PSP2.

I quote thee for thy truth speaking capablities.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

One would think that an FFVII remake would be for some sort of PS system. I mean every game in the series (except the mobile ones) have been on a PS system, even Advent Children is now being released on Blu-Ray, and bundled with the PS3 in Japan.

I do really think that Sony owns the rights or Square feels they are in debt to Sony and need to release them on the PS brand. I mean if not then why would they put Crisis Core on the PSP? Surely it would've sold more on the DS...

That's not true.  There are plenty of Nintendo ones.

What Sony bought when they got FF7 was the "Right of first refusal" for publishing.  It's been mentioned in articles i couldn't find.

Which if that is still the case... would just mean SE could go "FF7 Xbox 360 exlusive do you want to publish"

And basically sony's choice is to publish the game or not.

(If so it means they refused to publish the PC version... which is stupid.)

Bolded: Of course I know that the FF series started on Nintendo and all that, I was talking about the FFVII franchise, maybe I should've called it universe?

I know it doesn't mean you own the rights just because you publish a game, but I still find it weird that they have made all FFVII's for the PS brand.

I don't think it was that odd.  I mean the only "unexplainable" one is Crisis Core really.

People like to blame MS for it.  Why couldn't Sony have "moneyhatted" it.

Or they just saw monster hunter could move PSPs and decided to role with it.

I mean if you look at the descriptions of the deal they signed it was basically the rights of first refusal for FF7, Final Fantasty Tactics and two other games.  I wanna say Bushido Blade was one of them.

Well it wouldn't be too strange to make Dirge of Cerberus multi-plat PS2 and XBOX, but then again SE weren't that into multi-plats last gen.

And if they moneyhatted those then why wouldn't they do it for the FFVII remake? I mean the orignial did wonders for the first PS in Japan so why wouldn't they want it again?

Because the loss of revenue would probably command a very large chunk of change.  Also the effect of FF7 on the PS1 is overstated.

Eh, let's agree to disagree?

Game was meant to be played on no other system then the PlayStation, whether it be 1 2 or 3.. And if they do announce a remake, It will be an exclusive.

It was on PC as well you fanboy. There goes your little exclusivity theory.

SCEA owns rights to FF7, thus it wouldn't go multiplatform.

SCEA published the PSX version of the game along side SE.  They don't own the rights to it. SE does. Eidos published the PC version.

I didn't think we were really disagreeing on anything but ok.

The PS1 was really popular when it first released.  People like to credit it's success to FF7 and the DVD drive... but it was just a good system.

The way I see it FFVII would've been a great game whether or not it was on the 64 or the PSX. If it was Nintendo would've turned Cloud into their a household name character and he'd probably be in SSB. Sony didn't turn FFVII into the top game, SE did and it was their choice to use Sony as a platform. Let them make their choices now. If you don't trust them now...you never should've trusted them with Sony.
