Forums - Sales - The Hardware Boost From Yakuza 3 and Killzone 2 - Good or Bad?

Last week was possibly one of the biggest weeks for Sony this year. With no actual solid confirmation FFXIII or GT5 will be out this year the week could proove to be the most important if those games don't come out.

So with that 1st week sales for the two games combined was 1.08m units sold. Pretty impressive numbers there for Sony. Those sales helped push PS3 numbers above the 360 worldwide and above Wii in Japan for the week.

BUT

The PS3 sold 199.728k units worldwide this week. That means an increase from the previous week of 44k.

So what do people think of those numbers? Should the two games have sold more units? As boosts go to me that is a very minor one.

I think that some other people have got it right in another thread.

you have to look at it compared to the declining trend that is hitting all consoles. So if a console is able to stop or temporarily (because let's not kid ourselves) turn that slide, then the expected drop should also factor into the "hardware boost".

And all in all, those two games together only launched as 1 game, seeing how Killzone didn't get Japan and Yakuza didn't get US and Europe.

So you are telling me that an increase of approx. 25% is minor?

It's definately a minor boost and when the npd comes out we may learn there was no boost at all.

It will be more interesting to see how things fair next week when the fresh new games will have been out for a full week.

@ scat: how is NPD going to nullify European and Japanese numbers?

Considering PS3's price, it's a job well done!

^^ this.

Considering the PS3 price it is quite good

Indeed, since I believe Sony price drop will come really later this year, Sony needs to counter the xbox360 momentum with exclusive games like KZ2 saying to gamer : "hey all, PS3 is still alive, look at our games, dont buy the Xbox360 !"

KZ2 is typically the type of game the PS3 need : very good review, jaw dropping graphism allowing the PS3 to get back some sales AND some hype AND to take the throne of the more beautifull console title !

Remember a lot of hardcore gamer dont own a PS3 because it lacked titles or was too expensive.

MS fear this Sony momentum so much that, in France, they have put a special offer on the Xbox360 PREMIUM and ELITE to compete with Sony and they have recently made an annoucement claiming the future Xbox360 games will match KZ2 !

The HD War is not finished ...

Time to Work !

The Japanese boost is fantastic, but the American boost was just ok.
