way to go M$ that price cut did wonders and i think they could keep it going by dropping the arcade another $20 to $179 and adding a 20 GB HDD.

no, they should make two steps. First add a HDD to the Arcade, then drop the price by 20USD. You will have two spikes instead of one.

I predicted 40 million untill 2010. I am very confident right now. I can't wait to see if RE5 had some effects on hardware sales outside of Japan, by the way.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Well, this just shows how playstation brand is weakening every year. After all sony & ms are fighting over same players.

so once more, whats the price difference ? Why are you fanboys scared to say it, i don't remember how much the cut was in the 3 main markets i want to know the differance.

judging by the posts you kids still don't get the importance of price just look at the post above.

Oh you really don't know?  And I thought you were just being an obtuse fanboy...

360 is available in 3 flavors ranging in price from 199-399.  The PS3 is available at 399 and 499.

But you probably did know that didn't you...

Fanboy, haha... Yeah, maybe PC 'fanboy'(I personally prefer elitist), but not some crappy MS product fanboy.

Yes, price is one factor why playstation brand is weaking all the time. First Sony was able to fight with brand only, but now it has already kind of overused playstation brand and its weakening all the time. Or are you suggesting that it is getting stronger? Who is in denial here? ;)

Yahh i don't follow 360 pricing worldwide, i don't even know what PS3 costs in Europe (why the hell would i)

Seems you all are scared to say it cause its sales were only due to the price being cut DUHHHH. Not sure why its so threatening to you PS3 price cut did exactly the same thing. And will do the same thing when it happens again.

"Deneidez" what i see is PS3 is selling what 360 is. The difference was what 10k ww.

My memory being fuzzy but didn't PS3 get a cut early last year ? so it selling less now then it did last year is pretty much due to the cut ?

If you kindly can post the prices for the two hd consoles for the 3 main markets id appreciate it greatly.

How is the PS brand wreaking ? according to amazon you can get a 360 for $199 while PS3 $399 thats double. If price disparity is similar WW then logiaclly 360 should be doung double the sales of PS3 like the Wii is. But its not it barely out sold it last week.

It barely out sold a a product that costs double $199 to $399 (189k to 179k) if that means PS brand is weakening then what does it say about the xbox brand ???

Given a $399 price tag and matching sales of a product HALF its freaking price id say PS brand is quite strong.

But to most of you on here apparently a product that costs half selling as much as something that costs double means its brand name is strong and should be celebrated lol.

Ps3 kicks its ass in sales after a price cut.
360 kicked its ass in sales after a price cut.

Its a simple sales cycle i'am not sure why all of you are scared of acknowledging it ?

Lovely thread. Not just for the irony but the comparison is genuinley interesting - it's exciting to see how big the X360's peak year will be compared to 2008, especially since consoles usually peak earlier in their life and many people predicted the X360 would peak in 2007 already and just go down from there.

So far 2009 has been amazing for the X360.

Would be fun if you'd keep updating this thread kowenicki in addition to your other sales tracking threads.

I have said this before. The peak is more associated with cost of console then year in its life.  With that in mind I predict either 2009 (Arcade at sub $200) or 2010 (Pro at sub $200) will be 360 peak.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

But it's double the price!@$!%#$$%!!!! .....I really hate this argument....

Price only gets you so far and it shows true with the Wii costing more than the Arcade version of the 360 and about the same as the Pro 360 (it's actually cheaper to buy a Pro 360 bundle in Canada at the moment with all the sales going on) so there's more to it that just sticker price. Obviously the price cut did help bring it into line where people thought it needed to be for them to make the jump (me included), but as has been mentioned earlier there were significant shortages for the 360 at this time last year. By the end of the year if it's still at 60% YOY then that will be incredible, but it's likely to fall a bit, but hopefully still remain up, when it gets back into months where stock (and prices) were roughly the same.

The real thing that is selling consoles is VALUE. What people expect for the money they are putting down. Obviously A LOT of people feel that the Wii is good value for their money regardless of lack of HD, lack of storage, poor online, no longer the cheapest console, a lack of "hardcore" games, etc., etc. There are people who obviously feel that paying $400 for a PS3 is good value for their money, which is why it's still selling at a decent pace, albeit slower than last year. A price cut will help this of course, but don't discount that people see great value for their money in a 360 as well which is why it's continuing to gain steam even it it's 4th year on the market.

Consoles Owned: Atari 2600, NES, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, N64, Gamecube, Wii, XBOX360

i detect fail in this thread. 2008 had big games.. yea. 2007 had big games too. i dont see what is so special about 08. i think 07 had much better games. nobody is going to remember alan wake and halo wars and probably resident evil 5 by the time 09 ends, so i dont understand what you are trying to say at all with number two.

and the 360 is not going to sell 20 million. that is just a retarded ass estimate.

i think its cool and interesting or whatever that you are comparing sales from this year to last year, but your stated reasons for doing it are just fucking stupid.
