Forums - Sony - The Reason Why 360 Fanboys Might Think KZ2 Sales Don't Impress

Certainly Gears1 had holiday shopping season for boost and that could contribute to the reason for the higher first week sales.

However, I just don't understand how the current smaller user base for PS3 could be used as a reason as well as how people comparing Killzone 2 to Gears1 is unfair cause it's an established franchise. It was a new IP when Gears 1 was released.

This is a slow time of the year and Killzone 2 had a good first week. It might not be record breaking but it's decent enough.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

???? Seriously, that doesn't make sense. I would say that almost all PS3 owners buy Blu Ray discs, aside from that JRPGs haven't exactly done brilliantly on that platform.

@CGI: Hes probably talking about Gears 2.

@bolded

Maybe they would if they actualy started releasing any on that platform! lol

Gears 1 was also the 360's first really BIG game, what else was out there? It was the first game most people played around that time. First BIG game + Holiday release, you figure it out.

Anyone acting like 750k is a bad "first week" is out of their minds in my opinion. Especially when this is what most people on this site predicted.

PD0, PGR3, COD 2, Ghost Recon: AW, Fight Night 3, Oblivion, Dead Rising, Saints Row.

Plenty big games on 360 b4 the 2006 holiday lineup.

Ugh... according to your own logic, none of those games were "BIG BOYS".

First week sales for each.

Perfect Dark Zero - 220k
PGR3 - 120k
Call of Duty 2 - 270k
Ghost Recon: AW - 230k
Fight Night R3 - 122k
Oblivion - 303k
Dead Rising - 231k
Saints Row - 274k

touche. They were big games, but not "big boys" like Gears and Halo 3.

Launch sales were not amazing for the 360 because the installed base was slowly coming in from last gen consoles. All those games you listed had legs to survive the sales they got during launch. I applaud most of them even getting over a million out of all honesty. You're talking about launch titles here. Those games were not considered huge.

OK. So Killzone 2 won't make (the killzone franchise) the next big FPS franchise (Halo, COD), 'cause it didn't/won't beat well established franchises sales-wise.

I don't know, call me ignorant, but a good game it's a good game (not said by me, KZ2 it's a very good game) if it gets its millions and makes its dime there's no denying it will get its sequels, just like Resistance got sequels (one for PSP too), they would probably never reach the level of COD, but you know what? you don't know, nodoby knows. Maybe KZ2 will be the next big FPS franchise, it's still open for the future. At least KZ2 is going the right direction, it would be foolish to think a sequel (for PS3, PS4 or whatever) wouldn't at least have "good faith" from gamers (and the media) behind it.

Wait which PS3 JRPG sold alot???

Xbox 360 owners buy games from every genre. THey buy the most arcade games, shooters, racers, RPGS , sports, music, fighters.

Well that still invalidates the idea that PS3 owners mostly buy JRPGs, because if they did...

Despite sales, it's still the top shooter on the PS3 for me.

oh definately. I mean look at the way we PS3 owners treated one of the best J/SRPG's this gen: Valkyria Chronicles.

Appaling. That sends a message that those types of games aren't appreciated on that platform: ergo 360/Wii get all the JRPG's

anyway, enough of that, I'm getting horribly off-topic (yet again. Sorry OP)

I agree. My point to him was that Gear of War was the 360's first HUGE GAME, thus resulting in it's high sales on the smaller userbase. Plus it launched during the holiday season. There is no denying that you will find many who will say that Gears was the first 360 game they ever played.
